Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has sent a message to President Bola Tinubu and other African countries.

 

He warned them against taking foreign loans and grants with demonic conditions.

  

In a post on his X handle on Thursday, the former lawmaker suggested that all African countries, including Nigeria, who appended their signatures should go back and ‘unsign’ the Samoa agreement.

 

He wrote: “African states should not accept loans or grants from any country, group of countries or international institutions that came with demonic conditions antithetical to our culture, religious faiths and values. All African countries including Nigeria who appended their signatures should go back and ‘unsign’ the Samoa agreement.”

Janet Gimba, a judge of the Upper Customary Court in Kaduna State, who was abducted by gunmen suspected to be terrorists along with her four children has regained her freedom.

Sadly, the eldest of the four children was killed by the terrorists over delay in receiving a ransom of N300 million they had demanded.

SaharaReporters reports that the three of her children are still in the custody of the abductors.

SaharaReporters on Wednesday reported how Galadima, and her four children were abducted by gunmen on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

The victims were abducted at their residence in Mahuta, Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.

The judge’s husband, a medical doctor, was away on duty at the time of the incident, SaharaReporters learnt.

An X user @I_Am_Ilemona said on Tuesday that the abductors were demanding a ransom of N300 million in exchange for their safe release.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Wednesday evening, stating that the police had escalated their efforts to rescue the abducted family members.

“We are trying our best to rescue the victims,” he said.

However, the husband, Musa Gimba confirmed the judge’s release on Thursday morning, noting that the woman was released without her three children.

He explained that the bandits had reduced the ransom demanded to N150 million and that it should be paid within three days.

He said they threatened to kill his children if the money was not paid.

In an X post on Thursday morning, @I_Am_Ilemona confirmed that the ransom had been reduced by the abductors.

“Mrs Janet Gimba was released yday. However, her 3 sons – Jeremy (12), Nathan (9) & Ibrahim (6) – are still in captivity. The kidnappers have reduced their demands to N150m,” he said.

The many friends as well as family members of a Nigerian woman called Mesuur Abata, are mourning her tragic passing.

The woman is reported to have died shortly after giving birth to her first child after 13 years of waiting.

Veteran entertainer, Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy has applauded moves to release, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

 

According to him, Kanu’s release is fast approaching.

 

Charly Boy made the remark while dismissing the alleged hatred Northerners have for Igbos.

 

Posting on X, Charly Boy also cautioned Igbos sabotaging efforts against Kanu’s release.

This comes as the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, accused some Igbo politicians of frustrating efforts to release Kanu.

 

IPOB warned that politicians trying to sabotage Kanu’s release should quickly retrace their steps.

 

The spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said these politicians should be ready to face the consequences of their actions.

 

This is coming when Southeast governors and senators resolved to meet President Bola Tinubu to explore a political solution regarding Kanu.

 

Several terrorists have been neutralized by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets during an airstrike near Degbewa and Chinene in Borno State.

The strikes also destroyed numerous terrorist structures within the two hideouts in the Mandara mountains.

NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, announced this in a statement on Thursday, July 4, confirming that the operations were carried out on July 3.

These airstrikes followed su*cide attacks in Gwoza, Borno State, five days earlier, which left 32 people dead and 52 others injured.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had previously pledged that its troops would do everything necessary to eliminate the terrorists responsible for the attacks.

Gabkwet explained that the airstrikes were launched after several days of aerial surveillance over Chinene and Degbewa, which revealed “a consistent gathering of a large number of terrorists in the area, suspected to be sites for the manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices and storage.”

He added, “The terrorists were also observed loitering within the vicinity, clearly oblivious of what was to befall them, and probably confident that their location was safe and secured from any form of military bombardments.

“The airstrikes were thus authorized, with the aircraft bombarding the locations in several passes until the majority of the terrorists were eliminated. Others observed fleeing the location were taken out using cannons.”

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, on Wednesday, promised to immortalise the two students of the Confluence State University, Osara, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa, who were killed by Kidnappers in May. The governor also reassured students and management of the school of improved security on the university campus. Ododo stated these when he met 29 students of the university who were rescued after being abducted by gunmen on the night of May 9, 2024. The governor’s Special Adviser, Ismail lsah, in a statement on Wednesday, said Ododo hosted the rescued varsity students as part of the move to restore confidence and demonstrate the commitment of his administration to the safety and security of students and educational institutions in the state. The governor promised to complete the perimeter fencing of the university within 16 weeks and ensure full security surveillance of the campus with the capacity for round-the-clock emergency response by security agencies. It quoted the Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, as commending the governor for the decisive steps taken to rescue 29 of the 31 abducted students. The Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, also expressed appreciation to the governor for the fatherly role he played after their abduction and subsequent rescue.
