Mr. Aliyu made this statement in Abuja during the 2024 budget performance review and 2025 budget proposal session organized by the House Committee on Rural Electrification.
The REA helmsman, accompanied by Mr. Umar Ganduje, the son of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and REA’s Executive Director of Technical Services, noted that President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the deployment of solar power aims to reduce the cost of governance.
He said: “Today, we presented the 2025 budget proposal, which is the largest budget in REA’s history. The first key aspect of our 2025 budget is the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative, an initiative of President Bola Tinubu, with a proposed allocation of N100 billion.
“The purpose of this initiative is for REA to solarize the public sector. When you analyze past budget implementations, you’ll see the significant amounts spent by public institutions on purchasing generators and diesel to provide electricity.
“Now, the Federal Government has identified this as an opportunity to cut the cost of governance by providing REA with funding to solarize these public institutions. This was part of what we presented to the House Committee.”
In a brief interview with journalists after the budget defense, Mr. Aliyu highlighted the agency’s key achievements over the past year.
“For the 2024 budget performance, REA implemented various projects. Notable among them were grid extensions and the deployment of mini-grids for productive use, particularly in agricultural areas.
“We also deployed a significant number of solar home systems in 2024,” he added.
While commending President Tinubu for the substantial allocation to the agency in the 2025 budget proposal, Mr. Aliyu remarked: “I think we’ve never had it this good. REA’s budget proposal for this year is excellent.
“If you compare it to last year, the total budget was about N160 billion. This year, we have over N500 billion, which is more than sufficient for us.
“All that remains is for us to implement these projects effectively and deliver on Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he concluded. ...Read Full Article >>➤
