The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abia State Command has arrested another set of suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys. The operatives from the Uyo Zonal Directorate reportedly embarked on a sting operation which led to the busting of the suspects in their residence at the Umuagu and Olokoro area of the State.
In the statement released by the agency’ s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in Abuja on Monday, he said the operation was carried out on Friday and it led to the arrest of 22 suspects while expensive items were recovered. The suspects are young men who are expected to use their time to engage in legal activities.
According to the report, it was revealed that six exotic cars, eight laptops, and 36 expensive mobile phones were recovered during the operation. The laptops and phones were suspected to be the tools being used by the suspects to perpetrate their fraudulent acts, although, it is yet to be confirmed if incriminating items or documents were found in the phones and laptops.
An investigation is ongoing on the suspects and that’ s probably the reason the anti- graft agency is yet to release the names and photos of the suspects to the public. They will be charged to court after the investigation according to the agency. The agency should kindly do a proper investigation on them and make sure they did not punish the wrong person/people.
