The attack took place on January 4 in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area, as confirmed by counterinsurgency experts familiar with the Lake Chad region.

The ambush triggered a two-hour gun battle, during which five soldiers lost their lives, and some military equipment was destroyed.

In response to rising insurgent activity, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai launched airstrikes targeting ISWAP’s strongholds within the Timbuktu Triangle, a strategically significant and challenging area in Borno State.

Intelligence reports indicate that these precision strikes dismantled key insurgent positions, neutralized a significant number of ISWAP fighters, and disrupted their operations.

Further airstrikes were conducted in the Gwoza axis of the Mandara mountain range. This offensive targeted Boko Haram factions loyal to Ali Ngulde, a notorious commander, as part of ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist networks in the region and restore stability.
