Two days ago, Davide Calabria lifted the Supercoppa Italiana trophy to the sky in the Riyadh night as club captain. However, it has not changed his future.

After beating Juventus in the semi-final, the Rossoneri also got the better of Inter and in that match there was also the contribution of the captain, who came on in the second half in place of Emerson Royal.

He gave more than just a token substitute appearance too, given that he had a hand in the winning moment by feeding Christian Pulisic, whose pass to Rafael Leao then turned into the assist for Tammy Abraham’s 93rd-minute goal.

Upon returning to Italy, Calabria told reporters: “I had already won the Supercoppa, but lifting it is something more. It’s been my dream since I was a child, doing it with this shirt is something exceptional and incredible.

“What’s different from winning the Scudetto? They were both beautiful victories in reality, but this one is different also because at 2-0 it wasn’t a given… We put all our heart on the pitch, in reality we were sure we could play a great game and we did it.”

However, the joy of a newly won trophy does not change the scenario regarding his future at the moment. TMW recall that Calabria’s contract is expiring and with Milan there has never even been any talk of a contract renewal.

The full-back is still expected to leave when his contract expires on a free transfer. He will not depart before that though, despite some interest from clubs in a January move.
