About the UNHCR Internship Program

The UNHCR Internship Program offers students and recent graduates the chance to gain hands-on experience in humanitarian work. Participants can work in an international environment, engage in significant assignments, and learn from seasoned mentors.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following conditions to qualify for the internship:

• Be a recent graduate or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a university recognized by UNESCO.
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to UNHCR’s work.
• Not have immediate family members (parents or siblings) employed by UNHCR.

Recent graduates are defined as individuals who finished their studies within two years of applying for the program.

Internship Locations and Duration

Internships are available in various locations, including:

• UNHCR headquarters in Geneva
• Global Service Centres in Amman, Budapest, and Copenhagen
• Field offices across the world

Interns have the option to work either on-site or remotely, subject to their supervisor’s approval. Typically, placements last from 2 to 6 months, with the possibility of extending up to 8 months depending on the needs of the organization.
