The Society for Family Health in collaboration with Population Services International, handed over the data tools in Ibadan, the state capital on Monday.
Receiving the items on behalf of the government at the state secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the Executive Secretary of the state Primary Health Care Board, Muideen Olatunji, said addressing healthcare challenges required collaborative efforts beyond the capacity of state and Federal Governments alone. Represented by the Assistant Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Adeyemi Adewole, the executive secretary commended SFH and PSI for their unwavering supports.
He acknowledged the increasing healthcare burden due to a growing population and a dwindling workforce, exacerbated by the “Japa” syndrome-the emigration of skilled professionals.
He said, “Population is blooming every day and the staff strength is dwindling. Japa syndrome is not helping matters at all. We even thought that employing people and engaging more health workers is the solution.
“As we engage them, they leave, and you can’t tie them down, you can’t ask them not to go. So, if we don’t want to fail in the care of the community, the time has rightly come when we must engage in self-care.
“If you come around and say the state is doing well, Oyo is performing. It’s because we are living in peace. It’s because our partners have been unrelenting in their support.
“So, on behalf of the government, I want to commend you, our partners, for your unflinching support on the issue relating to family planning in this state. On behalf of the Executive Secretary, I want to express the gratitude of the PHC board to you, our partners, for supporting us.
“As long as you keep supporting us, we don’t have any excuse not to perform. So, you are the motivation behind our performance. For us in this state, this is not our only interaction with PSI. Thank you very much for your support, and we want to ask you to please keep supporting us.”
Speaking on behalf of SFH, the Business and Strategic Information Manager of DISC-SFH, Fidelis Edet, said the components of the donation are “15,000 Client Cards, 5,000 Stock Cards, 600 Monthly Summary Forms, 600 Family Planning Registers, 500 Daily Consumption Registers and 500 Requisition, Issue, and Receipt Forms.
“We have had a lengthy visit in this state that has taken over two weeks. During this period, we conducted supportive supervisory visits across selected sites.
“The visit was intended to assess what service delivery has been like following the training we provided to all the sites in the state on utilizing empathy-based counseling to deliver family planning service and to see the level of adherence to the tools that they have been trained with.
“We have also seized this opportunity to support the state by donating some National Health Management Information System and the Logistics Management Information System data tools to them. This is to help strengthen data reporting for family planning in the state. Interestingly, the state has been very impressive in terms of family planning documentation.”
Also speaking, the Technical Project Adviser at PSI, Solomon Odafe, said the programme, implemented by SFH with PSI’s support, was active in six states namely Bauchi, Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, Katsina, and Adamawa.
“During our visit to Ibadan North, Ibadan South-West, Akinyele and Ona-Ara Local Government Areas, all within the state, our findings were positive. What we came to do is what they called Data Quality Assurance. This state has already reported a number of people who have received services.
“This is one of the things that you have to do in a project like this so that the donor gets reports on people that have been reached by the service.
“We came to verify those data, and what we found was very good concurrent. That means the data aligns with what was reported to the donor. So, we are very happy with the performance of the government, the services are high quality and the data quality is very good.
“These tools that we have presented today are tools that each hospital needs to capture data. When they provide services to women, they need a register to enter the information that we provided this type of family planning service to this woman and this is what we did in October, November and December.” ...Read Full Article >>➤
