The event, tagged “Every Child Counts,” held in Osogbo on Saturday, began with a charity walk from Alekuwodo to Old Garage, where business owners, traders, drivers, motorcyclists, and others donated funds and items.
Speaking with newsmen, the founder of CALDEV, Rep Bamidele Salam, said the charity walk is an annual event organized to sensitize and raise awareness on the need for the community to support orphans and vulnerable children in the country.
According to him; “Annually we do 5-20 kilometres. Apart from the sensitization, we also use the platform to raise funds and raise other support for Orphanages. As you can see today, in most of the places we went, we had other people who were dropping money in our boxes, we had people who gave us food items and so on.
Rep Salam stated that the charity walk is also a platform to raise funds and other forms of support for orphanages and children with special needs.
“Whatever we gather here is just like a gesture, as we speak CALDEV itself has bought several bags of rice and so many other household items we’re adding to it. We also had a large generous donation from our partners across the country and from the United States of America”, he added
The CALDEV founder, who said over 300 children from 20 orphanages and five schools for special needs would benefit from the funds and items, emphasized the need for the community to get involved in addressing the challenges facing vulnerable children in society.
He reiterated that every child counts and that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that children receive the care, love, and opportunities they deserve.
Also speaking at the event, the Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrasaq Taiwo Adegboye, expressed his appreciation to Representative Bamidele Salam for his continuous dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children in the community.
The Coordinator of Orphanages in Osun, Alhaja Laoye S.O., also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to Rep. Bamidele Salam for his relentless efforts in supporting orphanages and special needs schools across the state.
The event, which was attended by people from all walks of life, including government officials, caregivers, and volunteers, ended at the Oasis Event Centre, where children were hosted for a New Year’s party with a fun-filled afternoon of games, performances, and refreshments.
