The conference was organised to discuss military cooperation between the U. S. and African nations, with a focus on security and humanitarian efforts. Gen. Hecker specifically highlighted terrorist groups like ISIS as high- value threats that endanger both African nations and the U. S.
He stated that American airstrikes would continue against such groups, similar to previous operations in Somalia.” They are significant high- value targets that threaten African nations and the United States, ” Hecker said. ” So we will continue to go after terrorist organisations that threaten our African partners as well as the United States.”
Beyond counterterrorism efforts, Hecker emphasised that the U. S. Air Force is committed to working with African air forces in multiple areas, including security assistance, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief.
When asked about the Boko Haram insurgency and the role of the U. S. in supporting Nigeria’ s military, Hecker noted that the U. S. has been providing assistance for years.
” The U. S. Government has provided training and equipment to Nigeria for quite a while, so hopefully that will help them out, ” he said.
However, he clarified that the focus of the African Air Chiefs’ Symposium was not military conflict or air superiority but collaboration among African nations.
” We’ re talking about how we can help each other– African nations can help one another– and that’ s what the goal of this conference is, ” he added.

Zambia’ s Air Force Commander, Lt. – Gen. Oscar Nyoni, also spoke at the event, outlining how the AACS aims to improve humanitarian and disaster response efforts.
He explained that AACS member states would work together to provide crucial support in times of crisis, including food supplies, logistics, and aerial assistance.
” Remember, we are air forces that have come together, with our friends from the U.
