The AC Milan management are wanting to sign a midfielder before the end of the month and there are two stand-out profiles at the moment.

As Calciomercato.com report, the situation is now desperate in the middle of the park as Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders continue to start every game without any chance of catching their breath. It now seems to be affecting their performance levels too, which are usually very high.

Ismael Bennacer is back but has been out for a long time so patience is required, while Yunus Musah continues to be used more out wide, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is out until the beginning of February. Thus, the alternatives are not very reliable.

If there is an opportunity in January it will be seized. Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani will not spend just for the sake of it and they will only sign a player who is worth it, which they believe Morten Frendrup of Genoa is.

An attempt has been made to sign the Danish midfielder and the response was a €25m asking price, too high for Milan and for Atalanta who offered around €18m. The former Brondby player will most likely leave, but only in the summer.

The other name on Milan’s notebook is Lucas Gourna-Douath, currently playing for Red Bull Salzburg. Moncada has known him since his time at Saint-Etienne and has an excellent relationship with his agent and could make an attempt.
