Their major grievance revolves around the continued presence of Mrs. Edith Sede, the Permanent Secretary of Government House and Protocol, whom they allege is working against the interests of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration. Edo APC Leaders of Thought, in a statement by its spokesman, Momodu Adams, expressed worries that Mrs. Sede, who served under the previous administration, may not be fully aligned with the new government’s agenda.
They alleged that sensitive government information has been leaking and suggested that urgent action is needed to ensure stability within the administration. “We are concerned about the continued presence of certain officials from the last administration, especially in critical offices such as Government House and Protocol.
“There have been incidents of leaked documents and bureaucratic delays that are affecting governance. Governor Okpebholo deserves a team that is fully committed to his vision,” the statement read.
The APC leaders also claimed that many civil servants in the Government House still owe their allegiance to former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, and this, they say, is creating tensions among the governor’s appointees.
“There are instances where government processes have been delayed or obstructed, and this is unacceptable.
“The administration needs a fresh team that will work towards its success rather than hold on to past loyalties,” Adams added.
They called on Governor Okpebholo to appoint officials who will align with his policies, stressing that having a committed and neutral workforce is essential for effective governance.
Efforts to get Mrs. Sede’s response were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, government sources maintain that civil servants are professionals who serve the state regardless of political transitions.
