The operation, conducted on January 27, 2025, was based on intelligence reports pointing to the activities of suspected arms dealers operating from the Niger Republic.

This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre, Operation Fasan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi. Abdullahi said, “Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops launched a covert operation to track the suspects.

“The pursuit took place along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road, where the suspects attempted to evade capture by driving off-road into the bush. However, the troops’ tactical response forced the suspects to abandon their vehicle and flee on foot.

“A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered the following items: two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.”

In a related development, the military is intensifying its efforts to capture the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji, who has continued to elude arrest by frequently changing his hideouts.
