According to the publication, the late bandit leader named himself Shekau after the notorious Boko Haram leader who died in 2021.
Zagazola said a rival group led by a bandit leader identified as Shumo killed Shekau during the ambush.
Citing intelligence sources, Zagazola reported that Shumo, an indigene of Ragadada, Buruku in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna, launched the attack in retaliation for a previous assault by Shekau, who had reportedly seized his weapons and killed several of his fighters.
“It was gathered that the ambush paid off as Shekau was killed alongside some of his lieutenants during the ambush on March 5, 2025,” the report added.
“The neutralised bandits were buried by individuals identified as Yellow Million, Baba Kusa, and an imam from Kabode village, Kachia LGA.”
Rivalry among bandit factions continues to plague Kaduna, with multiple casualties reported in recent times.
Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has vowed to end insecurity in the northwestern state through kinetic and non-kinetic means.
