Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has rejected calls by the House of Representatives to withdraw the license granted to Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel, for its private airstrip.
In an interview with a tv media, Keyamo emphasized that the church has met with all legal requirements.”
In a nation like this, you cannot single out one person and say, ” Withdraw that one, ” when you have granted the same right to so many others. On what basis? ” , He inquired.
Before the license was granted, Keyamo noted that the church complied with all applicable laws.
” We went through a lot of procedures, so it took me a year to approve that airstrip, ” he stated.
The Minister of Aviation is legally in charge of making these permissions, and Keyamo gave the following explanation for his choice, he said; ” I examined every procedure. I gave my approval”.
Citing national security concerns, the House of Representatives had pushed the federal government to cancel private airfield licenses in October.
Keyamo assured Nigerians, meanwhile, that strict security measures are in place.
” You are not permitted to depart from any Nigerian private airport and fly abroad. This isn’ t feasible. The first place you have to land is at an international airport. Before you take off, you will be thoroughly inspected and examined, ” he explained.
