During a recent inspection tour of military units in Kano and Katsina states, the army chief emphasized the importance of maintaining relentless pressure on these threats until they are fully neutralized.

Speaking to troops from the 3rd and 17th Brigades, Lt. – Gen. Oluyede praised their dedication and success in Operation FANSAN YAMMA, an initiative aimed at curbing banditry and enhancing national security.

He encouraged them to continue their efforts with increased vigor, ensuring that all hostile forces are eliminated. ” Your achievements reflect your commitment and professionalism, ” he said, urging them to push further toward total victory.

To bolster these efforts, the COAS assured the troops of enhanced support through modern combat resources. The provision of advanced equipment and technology is intended to improve operational capabilities and empower soldiers in their missions.

This commitment underscores the government’ s determination to provide the necessary tools for success in counter- insurgency and counter- terrorism operations.

Beyond operational matters, Lt. – Gen. Oluyede addressed concerns about the welfare of serving and retired personnel. Recognizing the challenges faced by veterans, particularly regarding housing, he announced plans to expand the Affordable Housing Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) Scheme. This initiative aims to ensure that more service members can secure affordable homes before retirement, addressing a longstanding issue affecting former soldiers.

Additionally, the COAS highlighted ongoing efforts to improve living conditions within army barracks. Acknowledging the importance of comfortable accommodations for both troops and their families, he pledged improvements to enhance overall welfare.

In return, he called on soldiers to take better care of equipment and facilities, emphasizing the need for responsible maintenance to extend their lifespan.

During his visit, Lt. – Gen. Oluyede inspected key installations at Bukavu Barracks in Kano and Natsinta Barracks in Katsina. He received detailed updates from senior commanders, including Major General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, Commander of the 17th Brigade. Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur also provided insights into the current security situation in Kano State.

Accompanied by top military officials such as Major General Robert Sinjen, Chief of Operations (Army), and Major General Erema Akerejola, Chief of Logistics (Army), the COAS reiterated the government’ s unwavering support for the armed forces.

A poignant moment during the tour was the tribute paid to fallen heroes at the Heroes Wall of the 17th Brigade Headquarters. Troops from the 3rd Brigade showcased their skills through unarmed combat demonstrations, demonstrating their readiness and capability.
