The Port Harcourt- based interest group accused former militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, and the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, of making statements that amount to a direct threat to the Nigerian state.
In a statement issued on Friday, RRM’ s Director- General, Johnson Georgewill, also named the National Publicity Secretary of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), High Chief Anabs Sara- Igbe, as another figure responsible for inciting violence.
Georgewill described the statements made by the Ijaw leaders as reckless, thoughtless, and provocative, stressing that they pose a serious threat to national security and peaceful co- existence.
” As a group that stands for peace, justice, and a united Nigeria, we believe that no individual or organisation has a monopoly on violence, ” Georgewill stated.
He urged security agencies to arrest Dokubo, Okaba, and Sara- Igbe, along with any other individual or group attempting to undermine the nation’ s stability, economy, or people.
Georgewill questioned the motivations of those threatening to sabotage Nigeria’ s economy, asking whether they considered themselves more Ijaw than the nine Ijaw lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He criticised the Ijaw leaders for remaining silent about the alleged mistreatment of these lawmakers by Governor Fubara. According to him, the legislators have been humiliated, denied their allowances, and unfairly treated for over a year.
” The Fubara- led administration has refused to grant these lawmakers their entitlements, despite court rulings, ” Georgewill claimed.
He further reminded all parties involved that Nigeria operates a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law.
” The Supreme Court, being the highest court in the land, has given its ruling, and Governor Fubara is bound to comply with its decision, ” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, confirmed that law enforcement agencies are fully aware of the threats, particularly those made by militant groups.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a militant group, the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, had previously threatened to attack oil installations in protest against the withholding of the state’ s federal allocation. The group also issued a warning to non- indigenes in Rivers State, urging them to leave, citing imminent hostilities.
However, CP Adepoju dismissed these threats, assuring the public that the police and other security forces were fully prepared to handle any attempts to destabilise the state.
