According to CNN, the 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit at 9:05 a.m. local time, originating at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremors were so intense that they were felt in neighboring Nepal and parts of northern India, causing panic among residents.
Multiple aftershocks were reported following the initial quake, compounding the devastation.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the magnitude and depth of the earthquake, which has left communities in shock. At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, local authorities disclosed that at least 130 people sustained injuries, some of them critical.
Rescue operations are ongoing as officials assess the full scale of the damage.
