However, a fact- check by Africa Check has found no credible evidence to support this claim. The rumour originated from a screenshot of a tweet allegedly posted on 25 January 2025 by an X user named ” Celebrity Blogger.”

According to the post, Tinubu’ s move was a response to US President Donald Trump’ s recent tough stance on migrants in the US. Since his inauguration on 20 January 2025, President Trump has reportedly signed multiple executive orders, including measures for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.

A document from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that over 1. 4 million immigrants, including 3, 690 Nigerians, have been scheduled for deportation from the US.

However, the X post making the claim about Tinubu appears to have been deleted. Despite this, the screenshot continues to be widely shared, fuelling speculation and misinformation.
