Obasa’s impeachment on Monday followed revelations about extravagant spending on luxury vehicles, as reported by Peoples Gazette. Sources within the EFCC disclosed that Obasa, currently in the United States, is expected to be apprehended upon his return to Nigeria.

An EFCC official, speaking anonymously, stated, “The evidence against him is extensive and solid. This time, there’s little room for him to evade justice. The case has been thoroughly prepared, and we are ready to proceed.”

Obasa had previously been investigated by the EFCC in 2020 over claims of spending ₦1.1 billion in just one week but was eventually cleared of any charges. However, agency insiders believe this new case leaves him with minimal prospects of avoiding prosecution.

“His political connections have dried up. He’s on his own now,” said a source familiar with the situation.
