According to the command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, the prime suspect in the case has been identified as Joshua Edo, the chairman of the community’s youth group.

Other arrested individuals include Obayuwana Happy, Uhunwangho Everest, Chidera Umeh, Simon Benjamin, Odion Adagbonyin, Kennedy Ohro, and Osayi Adagbonyin. Police operatives from the Iyekogba Division’s Operation Rescue and Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended the suspects at different locations. Investigations revealed that the crisis in Obazagbon stemmed from disputes over leadership positions, particularly the roles of Chairman and Okiaghele, the traditional leader.

The conflict has reportedly led to multiple deaths and the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

The Commissioner of Police, Betty Isokpan, has strongly condemned the violence and assured the public that all individuals responsible will face justice. She reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protecting the lives and property of residents in Edo State.

The killing of Ogbeide has sparked widespread outrage, particularly among civil society groups in the state. Many have called for swift justice and stronger measures to prevent further bloodshed in community leadership disputes.

The Edo State Police Command continues its investigation into the case, and authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
