The Sokoto State government, through the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government, Hon. Isha Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, has rejected a request from a member representing the Gudu/Tangaza constituency, Hon. The government said reports in circulation from the Rep that the approval had been granted were untrue, describing it as “false and baseless.” Kalanjeni on Thursday urged the people of the LGA to disregard the document, which he claimed was a product of mischief aimed at achieving a sinister objective, reemphasizing that the government had not granted any approval.

The Rep member, in the letter obtained by The Whistler dated March 3, said, “As part of my commitment to community growth and development of our constituency, I am pleased to inform you that a committee has been established for the development of a modern market” called Gidan Madi at Tangaza Stadium.

“In line with this initiative, I am formally requesting your permission to utilize Gidan Madi Stadium for the construction of market stalls to facilitate this project.

“This development will provide a structure and enabling trading environment,” Yakubu, who is the deputy chairman of the North-East Development Commission, wrote.

The letter was received by the LG on March 5. Soon afterwards, the letter was circulated across social media with reports that, by acknowledging receipt of the letter, the LG had granted approval to convert the stadium to market stalls.

Alarmed, Kalanjeni denied the report, noting that at no time was the approval granted, wondering when acknowledging receipt of a letter meant approval.

He warned the “people of Tangaza Local Government should not be deceived by this document,” Kalanjeni warned.

The Chairman assured the people of Tangaza Local Government that his administration remains committed to delivering on its campaign promises and improving the lives of the people.

“We will not be distracted by these baseless allegations,” the chairman said.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to deliver on our promises and take Tangaza Local Government to greater heights in line with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-point smart agenda,” he added.
