Security was heightened at the court premises, with officers of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies stationed at strategic points. Farotimi was arrested following a petition by Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), who accused him of publishing defamatory content in his book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
The court is expected to rule on his bail application during the hearing. The case, with charge number MAD/1,476.C/2024, lists the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police as the complainant and Farotimi as the defendant.
According to the charge sheet, Farotimi allegedly made claims that Chief Afe Babalola corrupted the Supreme Court to secure a fraudulent judgment. The statement was described as likely to incite public fear, cause alarm, or disrupt public peace.
This hearing follows a previous court decision on December 4, 2024, denying Farotimi bail.
