“Good governance is built on accountability and transparency,” Hon. Chukwu emphasized. “Unfortunately, Governor Otti’s administration has failed to demonstrate these essential qualities, despite campaigning on a platform of transparency and accountability.” Hon. Chukwu questioned the utilization of Abia State’s resources, citing the lack of evidence supporting the government’s claims of investing over ₦54 billion in public school rehabilitation. ”
Abians demand to know where these funds have been allocated,” Hon. Chukwu said. “If ₦3 billion were invested in public school rehabilitation across local government areas, we would see tangible results. Instead, there is no evidence to support these claims.”
Hon. Chukwu noted that he hails from Ugwueke in Bende LGA, and yet, there is no evidence of such investment in rehabilitating public schools in his area. “For instance, if ₦3 billion was invested in public schools across the 13 wards in Bende LGA, each ward would receive at least ₦200 million,” Hon. Chukwu explained. “This amount would be sufficient to build a standard model 20-classroom block in each ward.”
Hon. Chukwu reiterated that there is no evidence to support the claim that over ₦54 billion has been spent on public schools in Abia State. “Is the funds being used for road construction?” Hon. Chukwu asked rhetorically. “There is no accountability, no transparency. I recall how Governor Otti championed transparency during the PDP era, but he is not practicing what he preached.”
Hon. Chukwu concluded by stating that the APC is prepared to take over Abia State in 2027, citing the current administration’s failure to deliver on its promises. The APC, according to Hon. Chukwu, is ready to provide the necessary leadership and good governance that Abia State deserves.
Looking ahead to 2027, Hon. Chukwu emphasized the need for the southeast region to come together and support the government at the center. “We must stop playing the politics of opposition,” he said. “As a region with the smallest landscape and people scattered all over the country, we must unite to protect our interests and explore opportunities.”
Hon. Chukwu who also serving as member North West Development Commission(NWDC), highlighted the federal government’s generosity to Abia State and the southeast region, including the approved construction of Abia Airport, which will boost the economy and facilitate easy accessibility to other regions. Additionally, he mentioned the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which has been empowered to build and develop the region, with provisions made for funding.
With these developments in mind, Hon. Chukwu expressed optimism that the southeast region will experience significant modern development within the next two years.
