AC Milan and Juventus will renew their rivalry this evening at the Allianz Stadium, and there is a lot on the line in the quest for the European spots.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) has a preview for today’s game, headlined: ‘Juve-Milan for redemption. The big disappointments of the season, despite the coaching changes and the mercato, are still looking for an identity: they are hunting for a place in the Champions League’.
Rather than playing for the last available place for direct access to the next Champions League – as is currently the case – the two greats of Italian football wanted and perhaps expected to keep up with Inter and Napoli in the Scudetto battle.
After a more than disappointing first part of the season, Juve and Milan must settle for what they find themselves fighting for so as not to fail in what at the beginning of the season was a minimum objective.
On the front page, the paper refers to the game as ‘the guillotine’, because a loss for either could be very damaging and could lead to being cut off in the pursuit of the UCL places. The game will feature some intriguing battles across the park, which we picked out earlier.
