In a series of video clips shared on the EFF’s official social media platforms, the party amplified the voices of young people who expressed frustration over the country’s current political direction and the president’s handling of corruption scandals.
According to the EFF, young citizens feel increasingly disillusioned and disconnected from a political system that appears to serve the interests of the elite rather than the youth.
‘Young People Have Lost Faith in Government’
The EFF said that the rise in corruption, weak accountability, and the president’s failure to act decisively against those implicated in wrongdoing have discouraged many young South Africans from believing in the government’s commitment to real change.
“Young people on the ground are raising concerns about how dishonest and ignorant President Ramaphosa appears to be,” the EFF stated.
“They point to his absence from crucial conversations, despite his association with individuals linked to corruption. His continued failure to take accountability has demotivated many, and the revelations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi have further exposed the depth of political interference in corruption cases.”
The opposition party argued that youth frustrations reflect a broader crisis of confidence in leadership, urging Ramaphosa to take concrete action rather than issue “empty reassurances.”
Mkhwanazi’s Allegations and Parliamentary Inquiry
The EFF’s remarks come amid growing controversy surrounding KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Mkhwanazi accused Mchunu of colluding with criminal networks and ordering the disbandment of the political killings task team in the province — an allegation that has sparked national outrage.
Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee is currently probing the claims. Mchunu appeared before the committee on Thursday, 16 October, marking his first testimony since being placed on special leave in July.
His appearance followed two days of evidence from suspended deputy commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, who faced questions regarding the removal of 121 case dockets and the circumstances leading to the task team’s disbandment.
Youth Disillusionment Growing
Political analysts note that the EFF’s statements highlight a growing generational divide in South African politics. Many young voters, according to surveys, feel that established parties have failed to address youth unemployment, corruption, and poor service delivery.
The EFF has positioned itself as a champion of youth interests, frequently accusing the ANC-led government of prioritizing political power over genuine reform.
