The game had a lot riding on it as it concerns both ends of the table.

It was the Reds’ game in hand on second-placed Arsenal and the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

And it was the hosts who took the lead in the first half through Beto, following a quickly taken free-kick.

But Liverpool were level within four minutes, after Alexis MacAllister found himself inside the box to head past Jordan Pickford.

Mohamed Salah appeared to have won the game with a smart finish in the second half.

The result takes Liverpool to 57 points, seven more than Arsenal and 10 beyond Nottingham Forest.

For Everton, they are now 10 points off the relegation spots.
