DA Opens Case Over R104 Million Payments

The Democratic Alliance (DA) opened a criminal case against Madyo at the Johannesburg Central Police Station, accusing her of failing to report corruption involving millions of rand. The charges fall under Section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (PRECCA), which criminalises the failure to report fraud or theft above R100,000.

DA shadow MEC for Health Jack Bloom said Madyo initially froze R104 million in suspicious payments flagged by Deokaran but later approved them. Bloom suggested she may be among those who tipped off the mastermind behind the whistle-blower’s murder.

“She Must Account,” Says DA

DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said the former CFO, who now allegedly goes by the name Daniella Molapo, must face justice. “It cannot be that officials implicated in wrongdoing resign and walk away with hefty pensions. She must come and account,” he said.

Calls for Wider Accountability in Health Department

This comes days after Premier Panyaza Lesufi suspended Health Department head Lesiba Malotana amid ongoing investigations. However, Bloom argued that deeper scrutiny is needed, insisting that corruption runs through multiple levels of the department.

“Just about every hospital has a scam. They’re disciplining small officials, but not the masterminds,” he said, calling for the appointment of an “honest and competent CFO” to restore integrity in the department.
