In a brief ceremony at the “Children’s Homes” along Katuru Road in Kaduna, each child received N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone from the state government.

Governor Uba Sani pledged to support the children as they reintegrate into society, vowing to provide rehabilitation and empowerment opportunities to encourage them to become responsible, law-abiding citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, mentioned that the governor instructed him to collect credentials from those who had completed their tertiary education. “The Governor promised that some of them will receive start-up capital for trading, others will receive skills training, and some will be offered employment,” Meyere said.

The government will monitor the conduct of each child, extending these benefits based on good behavior. Contact details, including addresses, phone numbers, and next-of-kin information, were recorded for easy tracking and follow-up.

Upon release, each child underwent a medical examination and received psycho-social counseling, focusing on personal development and community contribution. Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities also counseled the children, emphasizing the importance of faith and the dangers of negative influences.

Meyere explained that the children were provided with phones, as they had lost theirs during detention, and that “the Governor graciously granted each of them N100,000 as a measure of goodwill.”

In a major setback for the Ondo PDP, Omotere Benson a respected political strategist and former Senior Adviser on Political Matters to ex-Governor Segun Mimiko has defected to the APC. His decision to join the APC was inspired by the visionary leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and, significantly, the grassroots influence of his Senior Special Assistant, Olaolu Kelvin Solomon. Adding to the impact, Hon. Kevin Solomon also facilitated the defection of an additional 50 PDP members, all following Benson’s lead in pledging allegiance to the APC.

This wave of defections, spearheaded by Benson and supported by over a fifty committed members, is a substantial blow to the PDP’s presence in Ward 1, Afo, Ose Local Government. Benson’s reputation as a unifying force and advocate for community-driven change has long made him a trusted figure. His switch to the APC alongside other members signals a growing alignment with the party’s progressive goals for Ondo State.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to impactful governance, backed by Olaolu Solomon’s tireless engagement with our communities, has shown that APC is committed to real progress,” Benson stated. “I am honored to join this mission and bring renewed energy to our shared goals for Ose and beyond.”

Olaolu Kelvin Solomon’s role in facilitating the defections has only reinforced his reputation as a people-centered leader and a key figure in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration. Hon. Kevin Solomon has been active in engaging local communities, earning trust through his hands-on approach and programs tailored to Ondo’s unique needs. His influence played a crucial part in not only Benson’s decision but also in encouraging others to join the APC which is a powerful endorsement of the party’s vision.

Governor raises alarm over invasion by charcoal merchants; warns of economic tree extinction....Read Full Article>>

The Taraba State Special Taskforce on Illegal Mining and Environmental Protection has sounded the alarm over an influx of large-scale charcoal merchants from neighboring states and the Federal Capital Territory, who are felling economic trees across the state for charcoal production.

The taskforce warned that this unchecked deforestation threatens the state’s environmental health and exacerbates climate change.

Why we abandoned our respective businesses to take up keke riding — Mr & Mrs Akinbo

Speaking in Jalingo on Wednesday, Taskforce Chairman Brig. Gen. Jeremiah Faransa (rtd) shared the taskforce’s concerns, stating, “We had to take action by confiscating trucks transporting charcoal out of the state. Our investigations reveal that valuable economic trees are now being cut down for this purpose.”

He emphasized that while the state does not oppose the local use of charcoal, the indiscriminate felling of trees for external profit will not be tolerated. “We can’t stand by as charcoal merchants from Abuja jeopardize our environment. Charcoal production must not come at the cost of our ecosystem,” Faransa stressed.
