She made this call on Saturday at a service of tribute organised by the Plateau State Government in Abuja in honour of the late General Jeremiah Useni. General Useni, a former Federal Capital Territory Minister, died on January 23, 2025.
Lar said the establishment of the hall of fame as done in other countries would inspire the young ones to give their all to their country. She said, “I call on the Federal Government to have a Hall of Fame like we find in other advanced countries. Please insert the names of our heroes and others in various areas of human endeavour who have excelled in their field so that our children and others will visit these centres and be inspired to do the same.”
Lar eulogised the late Useni, stating that he left behind a legacy of goodwill.
“We miss your personality, but we trust that you left the world with a good spirit and on good terms with your creator. Rest well,” she added.
She also emphasised the importance of national unity and peaceful coexistence.
“One day, all of us that are here will be no more in this world. All of us. May God help us to pass through this world with great success. So, when bloody civilians like me live in peace, love, and unity with each other, which is all that is needed for progress, may God grant us this in our nation.”
Meanwhile, former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, also paid tribute to Useni, crediting him for his career progression.
“I stand here, and I’m introduced as a former minister because I met a man called Jeremiah Useni. When I came for National Youth Service in Abuja, my father had not been to Abuja before, and neither had my parents any notes to give me to anybody. But they told us that if you won the NYSC award, you would get automatic employment. So I struggled and won the NYSC award,” he recounted.
Chidoka narrated how Useni played a significant role in securing employment for NYSC awardees, which set him on the path to his political career.
“As God would have it, on the day of our passing out, General Useni came, and he announced our automatic employment, and my colleagues and I resumed in the FCTA. Barely six months after I started working, I was made the secretary of a national committee, where I met top government officials and religious leaders, including Cardinal Onaiyekan.”
He further recalled how Useni ensured his role in the committee despite opposition and how this eventually paved the way for his future in public service.
Chidoka described Useni as a leader committed to fairness, justice, and the empowerment of young Nigerians, adding that his contributions should serve as an example for national leadership.
