It was gathered that the incident occurred when the gunman opened fire on a police patrol in the vicinity of the heavily guarded embassy, according to the state public security officials. The police responded swiftly, shot and killed the attacker.

However, the motive behind the attack remains unclear as authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the area surrounding the embassy was cordoned off, and a heavy security presence was observed.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing ambulances and police vehicles rushing to the scene.

Reuters reports that the area has become a hotspot for frequent anti-Israel demonstrations.

A security source revealed that police had urged residents to remain indoors while security forces conducted a manhunt for the perpetrators.

A portion of Jordan’s 12 million citizens are of Palestinian descent, with many having been displaced or fleeing to Jordan during the 1948 conflict that led to the establishment of Israel.

Many still maintain family connections across the Jordan River.
