Joe Foundation Hospital, located at Iheaka in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been sealed over an alleged human organ trafficking.....Read Full Article>>

This is as relatives of patients of the hospital, both discharged and those still undergoing treatment, currently sit on the edge over possibilities of their relatives being victims of the illicit dealings.

According to The Whistler, the hospital Friday morning, the once-bubbling hospital was locked.

Reports earlier emerged on Wednesday that the medical director of the hospital, popularly called Dr Obara, was arrested after a patient he operated upon developed complications, which later medical examination by a different medical expert confirmed that one of the patient’s kidneys had been harvested.

“We don’t know what is happening in the hospital,” said a resident of Iheaka. “The doctor was arrested and taken to Enugu. As you can see, the place is locked. Government might have locked it although there is no notice of sealing.”

Meanwhile, a man who did not want his name mentioned, said he had planned to take his nephew who was operated on at the hospital for medical checks.

According to him, “We want to be sure that my nephew’s kidney is intact. He has been complaining of some unending pains, and this same doctor has been treating him. Who knows if we are also victims?”

A social media influencer, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, had earlier reported how the MD of Joy Foundation Hospital had been exploiting his patients’ organs.

Quoting him, “A doctor aka Doctor Obara, the medical doctor of the hospital, Joe Foundation, popularly known as Ulogwu Obara, which is located along Holy Trinity Parish after Everbright Filling Station at Ekoyi Iheaka, Enugu State, after investigations, is found to be involved in organ trafficking.

“This was made known after a family took their child for an ordinary appendix operation, and ever since the operation was done, the child wasn’t getting better. They kept going for a medical checkup and the said doctor kept calling different names of sickness to be wrong with the child.

“The family kept the child under-medicated, but after a long time, there wasn’t any improvement and they decided to go to other hospitals. Over there it was confirmed by other doctors with medical evidence that the kidney of the patient had been harvested.

“The family took up the case to the Nigeria Police, and it was confirmed after thorough investigations that the so-called doctor, who has been living in opulence and luxury from the money he realised on organ trafficking, has been on this evil act for a long time.

“That the doctor will just call one name of a sickness supposed to be wrong with the patient, and after surgery, the patient will not recover till he or she will die. He has done it successfully for years on several occasions until now that he was arrested but nobody knows.”

World bank want Nigeria's hardship to continue for 15 years - Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, on Wednesday accused the World Bank of complexity in the hardship affecting Nigerians.....Read Full Article>>

Sani said the World Bank wants the hardship in Nigeria to extend for another 15 years before reaching the promised land.

Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “The World Bank wants the hardship to extend to the next fifteen years before we can reach the promise land. I don’t know how many people will be remaining at that time to enjoy the fruits of the WB in its promise land. The question is How many African countries have the World Bank taken to the promise land?” [sic].

Sani’s remark comes when World Bank said the Nigerian Naira is among the worst-performing currencies in sub-Sahara Africa at the end of August 2024.

World Bank disclosed this in its latest edition of Africa’s Pulse report.

Report showed that the Naira is at par with the Ethiopian Birr, and South Sudanese Pound in terms of decline in the region.

The report blamed the continued increase in the demand for dollars and limited dollar inflow for Naira depreciation in the last months.

According to the report, the Naira had lost about 43 percent as of August.

Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi: Nigeria Tax Bill 2024: A comprehensive framework for taxation

Taiwo Oyedele, the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms has said that the federal government has proposed that personal income for rich people will increase to 25 percent from 2025.....Read Full Article>>

Oyedele disclosed this in its remarks at the 30th Nigeria Economic Summit.

According to him, the new tax policy contained in the Economic Stabilization Bill currently at the National Assembly
will see wealthy Nigerians earning above N1.5 million pay more taxes in the coming months.

Citing a survey by NEGS, he said only 17 percent of Nigerians and 30 percent of businesses pay taxes because of a lack of trust in the Nigerian government.

He stressed that the country is working to close its about 70-75 percent tax gap to double its revenue by four times.

“The rich people earning N1.5 million above will see their personal income tax rise by up to 25 percent.

“Only 17 percent of Nigerians pay taxes, as well as 30 percent of businesses and one of the reasons is because they don’t trust the government.

“Therefore, what we want to do is to have a National portal just like South Africa where tax payment is seamless and transparent because our current tax gap is about 70-75 percent but if we correct that and everyone pays, our revenues will be 4 times.

“Another issue is policy gaps where we grant unnecessary waivers to some people who don’t even deserve it. But the main issue remains compliance issue”, he said.

Recall that in the first week of October 2024, Oyedele announced that the Deduction of Tax at Source (Withholding) Regulations, 2024, has been published in the official gazette.
