Speaking through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi dismissed suggestions that he was desperate for the LP’ s presidential ticket, emphasizing his commitment to democracy and fair competition.

Obi’ s response follows a statement from the party’ s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who denied reports that the LP was planning to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and other 2023 candidates in the next general election.

This clarification came after the factional LP National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, declared that the party intended to present Obi as its candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu’ s re- election bid.

When asked whether the LP was indeed considering Obi for the 2027 race, Ifoh dismissed the claim, stating that such a narrative did not originate from the faction led by the party’ s National Chairman, Julius Abure.

However, when questioned about Obi’ s reaction to the idea that he would not receive an automatic ticket, his media aide, Umar, stressed that Obi was unbothered by such discussions.

Umar reiterated that Obi remains focused on strengthening Nigeria’ s democracy and promoting the welfare of its citizens. He highlighted Obi’ s belief in good governance and healthy political competition, stating that these values are crucial to a strong and functional democracy.

He further emphasized that Obi has never sought any undue advantage in the electoral process, insisting on the necessity of a level playing field where all candidates can fairly contest.
