The claims emerged Tuesday afternoon at the Madlanga Commission. A Gauteng detective, identified only as Witness A, presented the testimony. This officer works on the team that arrested Molefe for the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April last year.

Molefe, also linked to the murders of DJ Sumbody and Vintos, stands accused of paying millions to influence his bail hearing. Witness A stated the payment allegedly went to individuals involved in Molefe’s case.

Initially, the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court denied Molefe bail. He later appealed that decision. The Johannesburg High Court overturned the ruling two weeks ago. Judge Brad Wanless granted Molefe bail of R400,000, finding the State’s opposition unsubstantiated.

Detective Alleges Molefe Paid Millions for Release

According to Witness A, investigators received a tip about the bribe before the successful bail application. “Prior to this bail, we had already received this information from informers and sources to say, Katiso Molefe will get bail,” the detective testified.

The witness further alleged that Molefe “bribed officials with millions” to ensure his release. “This was the figure that was given to us. He is going to pay R2.5 million for him to be granted bail,” Witness A claimed.

However, the detective provided no concrete evidence to support these serious allegations against members of the judiciary. The claims remain unsubstantiated at this stage of the proceedings.
