Authorities conducted the raid on Friday, October 24, 2025. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the details.

The operation began after police received a specific complaint about illicit activities at the site. A coordinated team from the Magaliesberg Police and multiple Search and Rescue K9 units mobilized for the mission.

Swift Arrests and Significant Seizure

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers quickly apprehended all six individuals, preventing their escape.

The subsequent search yielded a significant cache of weapons and mining equipment. Police recovered four rifles and 343 rounds of ammunition from the location.

The illegal mining operation was well-equipped. Recovered items included generators, jackhammers, and specialized explosive materials. These materials consisted of detonation cords with blasting caps and power gel used for underground blasting.

Coordinated Effort Against Illegal Mining

This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining syndicates. The joint force included members from SAPS Magaliesberg, Search and Rescue Bronkhorstspruit K9, Soshanguve K9, and Benoni K9 units.
