AC Milan and Inter have begun to contact the big Italian and American banks about the possibility of a 10-digit new San Siro project, according to a report this morning.
Talk of a new stadium has been ongoing for years now, and in the past year, there have been several proposals made. Milan and Inter have discussed a San Siro renovation, and stadiums of their own, and now it seems they have settled on a ‘new’ San Siro.
Reports in recent weeks have expressed that the clubs are looking to work together to purchase the stadium and surrounding area, which should cost around €197 million. It is the bit after that will cost the clubs substantially though.
According to Corriere della Sera (via Milan Press), the clubs are looking to build a ‘new’ San Siro in the area of the current car parks, whilst the current stadium would become a museum to show the history of the two clubs.
Looking to revenues, both clubs would look to pocket between €80-130m per season from a new stadium, which is a big driving force.
To unlock this idea though, the clubs must spend €1 billion, perhaps even €1.5bn, and contact with big banks in America and Italy has begun to sound out the feasibility. A deal must be presented by the end of February, so discussions with the banks must happen quickly.
It is worth noting that the report also suggests that the operation could still take a while to process, so the Rossoneri are not closing the door on the San Donato project, at least not yet.
