He noted that the raid was in furtherance to NAFDAC’s mandate to safeguarding the health of the nation and riding the South-East of unwholesome, substandard, fake and adulterated products.
“We stormed the popular Ogbete Main Market, Enugu in Enugu State since Friday and have shut down 100 shops which have been identified for selling fake alcoholic beverages.
“Arrest were made and the suspects are currently in custody.
“This fake wine and alcoholic beverages are being sold to unsuspected customers and the general public but we are determined to rid the market of these unwholesome products,” he said.

My Son Was Not A Cultist
![](https://spazr.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/My-Son-Was-Not-A-Cultist.jpg)
Mr Musibau Fabiyi, the father of late Hammed Ayinla Fabiyi, the final-year student of Tai Solarin University (TASUED) who was dragged out of an exam hall and shot dead by suspected cult members has debunked claims by law enforcement that his son was a cultist.
On July 4, a group of suspected cultists stormed an exam hall while exams were ongoing and dragged out Hammed, a 400-level student of history at the Ogun state-owned university.
An eyewitness account and footage had it that the victim was lynched afterwards.
The attackers, all dressed in white shirts, fled the scene before campus security arrived.
The Ogun state police command stated that Hammed was a member of the Eiye cult group.
According to the Ogun State Police Command PRO, Omolola Odutola, the attackers are a group of “about six” men who belonged to a rival confraternity called the Aye.
However, the victim’s father has denied that his son was a cultist.
He identified his son as an official with TASUED’s student body during a chat with TheCable in Ogun on Friday, July 5.
The bereaved father said his son may have been killed for reasons unrelated to cultism.
“From what I know about my son, he is not a member of any cult. I haven’t even seen him with any dangerous item before,” he said.
“What I can remember is that he told me about some affairs in his school. Since he was a student union executive, he told me that one of the leaders of the union was involved in the misappropriation of funds. He was hellbent on exposing that.
“I think that is where the problem is from. My son is not a member of any cult. If he was, I would have known. I am his father.
“It is unfair how students can do this to themselves. If this was a cultism issue, there would have been threats flying around or cases of retaliation.”

Police Eliminate Nine Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Arms, Ammunition In Lagos
![](https://spazr.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Police-Eliminate-Nine-Suspected-Kidnappers-Recover-Arms-Ammunition-In-Lagos.jpg)
Nine suspected kidnappers allegedly terrorizing the areas of Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo, and Ladipo in Lagos State, have been eliminated by law enforcement officers affiliated with the Lagos State Police Command.
The suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun battle with police on Thursday night in Lagos’ Ladipo neighbourhood.
Nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, a POS machine, a loudspeaker, four AK-47 rifles, and four locally manufactured semiautomatic pistols were retrieved from them in the interim. Also recovered are their two operational vehicles: a black Toyota 4Runner and a blue Lexus RX350.
Parading the suspect at the State Police Command in Ikeja on Friday, July 5th, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated: “That two weeks ago, the command received credible and actionable intelligence about a dangerous and very notorious gang of kidnappers planning to kidnap some high-net-worth individuals in Lagos.
Explaining further Hundeyin said: “Upon receipt of this intelligence about two weeks ago, CP Fayoade directed the Command’s tactical teams to commence work on it. They followed up closely, monitored dutifully and were able to determine that the gang was going to strike yesterday in Ladipo area of Lagos State. With the benefit of this information, we were able to proactively prepare for them and more or less laid an ambush for them.”
“The kidnappers who were caught unawares would not give up easily as they engaged the police officers in a shoot-out. They of course bowed to the superior firepower of the police. Nine of them were neutralized while two escaped with gunshot injuries.
It is worthy of note that the Command had been on the trail of this gang for the past eight months for their numerous kidnapping of wealthy individuals in Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo and Ladipo areas of Lagos State. We are proud to declare that their reign of terror has effectively come to an end.
“This breakthrough is in addition to several other breakthroughs we have made recently in identifying and apprehending kidnapping and armed robber gangs while they are planning their crimes. Many of these were not made public to protect the identities of the people who provided the information,” he added.
Hundeyin, on the other hand, urged everyone, including medical professionals, to keep an eye out for anyone with gunshot wounds and to notify the nearest police station or call any of our emergency numbers if they come across one.
“We also use this medium to encourage other well-meaning Lagosians to share information with us when they suspect something is wrong around them, so that we can act appropriately and quickly. We will continue to prioritize their safety and security.”

South African Police Arrest Teen Caught Assaulting His 82-year-old Grandmother In Viral Video
![](https://spazr.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/South-African-Police-Arrest-Teen-Caught-Assaulting-His-82-year-old-Grandmother.jpg)
A teenage boy who was seen in a disturbing video allegedly assaulting his 82-year-old grandmother, has been arrested by the Police in Kraaifontein, Western Cape province of South Africa.
The 19-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, after the heartbreaking video which shows the pensioner being beaten went viral on social media.
The disturbing incident, which occurred a month ago, has prompted widespread outrage and led to swift action by the authorities.
In the video, the grandson is seen assaulting the grandmother with his open arm, leading to a pot containing what appears to be porridge, spilling over.
The grandson beats the grandmother so hard that she drops to the floor.
The victim, a resident of Wallacedene in Kraaifontein, was found receiving treatment in the hospital for an ailment unrelated to the assault.
Despite the grandmother’s refusal to submit a statement, police investigations uncovered that the assault took place in June at the victim’s home.
Initially, when the South African Police Service (SAPS) was called to the scene, the family decided to handle the matter privately and declined police intervention.
Colonel Andrè Traut, spokesperson for the Western Cape SAPS, said the severity of the incident which became evident when the video began spreading online, compelled SAPS to open a case docket on behalf of the victim.
He said that on Wednesday night, the 19-year-old suspect, who is the grandson of the victim, was arrested at his Wallacedene residence.
He is set to appear in Blue Downs Magistrates Court once formally charged.
“Crimes against women and children are a top priority for SAPS, and we will not turn a blind eye to any form of violence in this regard,” said Traut.
The incident has sparked significant discussion on social media, with users expressing both outrage and concern for elderly abuse.

I’m Surprised Nnamdi Kanu Is Seeking Political Solution – Laolu Akande
![](https://spazr.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Im-Surprised-Nnamdi-Kanu-Is-Seeking-Political-Solution-–-Laolu.jpg)
Laolu Akande
Laolu Akande, a former Vice Presidential aide has stated that the case of Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), is sensitive.
He expressed surprise over the recent efforts of the IPOB leader to seek a political resolution rather than face judicial proceedings.
Akande, in an interview on Channels TV, explained that Kanu’s situation is a political problem that requires a political solution.
Akande said he expected Kanu to be bold enough to face legal proceedings on his case to prove his innocence.
He said, “Nnamdi Kanu’s issue is very sensitive. Not only does it have implications for issues of law and order, but it also has more implications on issues of politics.
“There are those who say that ‘this man has been accused of certain things, very grievous allegations, and they will have to be proven in court.’ These individuals argue that Kanu is responsible for certain chaos or statements traced to him.
“Some say a certain part of the country – the South-East – the leaders especially feel that this is a political problem, and we can sort it out by letting this man go free with guarantees that there won’t be any recurrence of what has happened.
“I think that Mr. Nnamdi Kanu should be bold enough to face these issues in court, but apparently, he’s not. With the Senators from the South-East now meeting the Attorney-General, I think we should see how it goes. From someone with the boldness and courage of Nnamdi Kanu, you would expect him to prove his innocence in court. Yet, I’m surprised he is seeking a political solution.”
While praising the senator representing Abia south senatorial district, Enyinnaya Abaribe’s boldness and courage, Akande disagreed with his scepticism about proving Kanu’s alleged crimes in court.
Akande suggested that if Kanu is found guilty, the government could consider a pardon for political reasons.
He added, “For Abaribe to say that these issues cannot be proven in court, I think, that’s exactly what I think can be done. Nnamdi Kanu can pose a strong defense. A court process is meant to be fair, open, and transparent. There is no such thing that cannot be proven in court. It can be sorted out in court, which is also the position of the Attorney-General.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to complicate the judicial process. If he is found guilty, the government can consider a pardon for political correctness. If he is not guilty, he should go home.”

Court Fixes Sept 18 To Decide Ganduje’s Fate
![](https://spazr.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Court-Fixes-Sept-18-To-Decide-Gandujes-Fate.jpg)
Abdullahi Ganduje
The Federal High Court in Abuja, has fixed September 18, to deliver judgement in the suit seeking the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, from office.
The court, presided by Justice Inyang Ekwo, fixed the date on Friday, after all the parties adopted their final briefs of argument.
The suit, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, was brought before the court by aggrieved members of the party under the platform of North Central APC Forum.
The plaintiffs, led by one Saleh Zazzaga, are querying the propriety of Ganduje’s appointment as the Chairman of the APC.
They, among other things, want the court to restrain Ganduje from further parading himself as the chairman of the party.
More so, they prayed the court to issue an order, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to accord recognition to all actions taken by the APC, including congresses, primaries and nominations, since Ganduje became APC Chairman on August 3, 2023.
The plaintiffs told the court that Ganduje is occupying the office of the APC chairman illegally, not being from a state in the North Central geo-political zone.
They argued that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC acted in breach of the party’s constitution, when it appointed Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West geo- political zone, to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu who is from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo-political zone.
The plaintiffs argued that Ganduje’s appointment to replace Abdullahi was contrary to Article 31.5(1) f of the APC constitution and ultra vires the powers of the NEC of the party.
They added that by the true interpretation of Article 31.5(1) of the APC Constitution 2013 (as amended), the party was bound to comply with the procedure for the replacement of an officer in the event of a vacancy and ought to appoint a member from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo- political zone into the office of the chairman of the party.
They want the court to among other things, declare that by Article 20(1) of the APC constitution 2013, as amended, Ganduje, could not be appointed as the National Chairman of the party other than through a democratically conducted election and that his current occupation of the office is illegal.
Besides, the plaintiffs want a declaration that by the provisions of Article 13 of the APC constitution 2013 (as amended), the party’s National Convention is the final authority of the party which has the power to elect or remove national officers of the party including the national chairman of the party.
The plaintiffs also want a declaration that the party’s NEC lacked the power to appoint any person to the office of the Chairman.
At the resumed proceeding in the matter on Friday, while counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr. Benjamin Davou, urged the court to grant all the reliefs by removing Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC, all the defendants, prayed the court to uphold their preliminary objections and dismiss the suit for want of merit.
Whereas Ganduje was represented by Mr. Abdul Adamu, the APC and INEC were represented by Isiaka Dikko, SAN, and Ahmed Mohammed, respectively.
