Nigerian Man Blames Ex-Wife, Daughter’s Former Boyfriend After Losing Daughter To Suicide In UK
Nigerian man, Oladapo Ogundipe, who happens to be the father of Alanis Ogundipe, a British-born Nigerian woman who reportedly committed suicide due to repeated physical abuse and blackmail allegedly by her boyfriend, has spoken up.
He spoke up and explained the “cause” of his 26-year-old daughter’s death.
Alanis reportedly jumped in front of a moving train on May 29, 2023, at a station in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Ogundipe explained that his daughter’s troubles began when her boyfriend, Ryan Leggetts, whom she met in 2022, infected her with herpes. She saw this as a stigma and decided to keep it a secret.
Speaking during an interview with The Punch, the Nigerian businessman said there has been more revelation and clarity regarding the death of his daughter.
He said the impression he got from Alanis’s mother was that they should have a single lawyer to represent both him and his ex-wife. He alleged that his former wife told him not to communicate with the legal team, which he found strange but agreed to.
“I trusted her. It was the first day of the hearing, and the way the barrister representing us acted when I tried to speak with him was off-putting. When I asked if they could give him the phone, I was trying to raise a point, but he didn’t want to speak to me. I found it strange.
“How can you not even speak to me before the hearing to hear my perspective? He just discounted everything.”
He said when the hearing began, Alanis’s boyfriend, Ryan Leggett, was present remotely. He told the judge that the lawyer was not representing him as an interested party and that he had the right to ask questions and give his own evidence.
He said he told the judge that he wanted to present his own evidence and ask questions.
“The judge said he had to adjourn it so that they could get submissions from the other interested parties; at this point, Ryan was also implicated,” he said.
He explained that when the hearing resumed, Ryan did not also show up. The judge asked the police if they had any objections, but the police did not object.
He claimed Alanis’s mother was the one giving instructions to the lawyer on how to proceed. According to him, to his surprise, the lawyer opposed Alanis’s father, who presented evidence to the court.
Ogundipe said, “The judge overruled that and called me to give out the evidence. I provided the evidence and requested to ask questions as an interested party. They said the coroner should allow me to submit my questions in writing. When it was Alanis’s mother’s turn, the barrister acted in opposition.”
He said it was at that point that he knew he was vindicated about the suspicions of the mother he had all along.
“Ogundipe said that before Alanis died, her mother failed to report what her late daughter had told her about Ryan, even from the point where he assaulted her.
She failed as a mother to encourage Alanis to end the relationship before he actually broke into her, even after Alanis reported the case to her mother,” he said.
He alleged that Alanis’s mother failed to report the case to the police. According to him, even after his daughter died, his ex-wife still did not report the case to the police.
“I was the first person to report to the police on the 14th of June 2023. After that, the mother started speaking about it. It made me remember my initial suspicions: why was she hurrying for the body to be cremated before any coroner’s investigation could commence? The autopsy they did wasn’t forensic,” he said.
He alleged that they had hidden all evidence because the mother gave Alanis a tablet the day before she died and on the day she died.
“The mother did mention in her statement that the impression she conveyed in court and to the police was that Alanis was the one who took the antidepressant tablet herself. Antidepressants are known to induce suicide if overdosed.
“When the police arrived at Alanis’s flat where she had died at 9 pm, Ryan had been repeatedly calling her mother’s phone. Initially, her mother refused to pick up and answer the call, but once the policeman arrived, she was forced to give him the phone.
He said the mother hid a lot of things from him. He also mentioned he was unaware that his late daughter had been taking antidepressants or had been abused by her boyfriend in any way until after she died.
“The reason the mother gave me was that she doesn’t want me to take Alanis away from her. They concluded that Alanis has short-term financial difficulties and that the breakup of a loving relationship led her to do it, which I don’t agree with,” he said.
He said she was expecting 100,000 pounds in three days, she had just received her salary day before she died, which was the day broken to her phone.
“She has not sold the car I bought for her, nor has she sold her jewelry. How can it be financial difficulties? he said.
Ogundipe said the big lesson from this is that when anybody you know dies, especially a loved one, and people start asking what killed them, don’t give out any information until you get to the bottom of it.
He said the very first information you give to people is what they will hold on to and believe, just as he initially believed what Alanis’s mother was telling him.
He added that people have held onto that story and what they believed, so now, for him, digging deeper reveals that it’s contrary to what people want to hear anymore due to their bias.

NDLEA Proposes Mandatory Drug Test For Prospective Couples
The NDLEA in Kano has suggested making drug testing mandatory for prospective couples as a step towards curbing drug abuse in the state.
The NDLEA Commander in Kano, Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
“The agency has introduced the Drug Intergrity Test Initiative, which is anticipated to metamorphose into an anti-drug culture for every Nigerian,” he said.
Idris-Ahmad said the drug test will serve as a tool for the prevention of drug abuse and early detection of individuals and couples status of drug use for appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.
He said the proposed law for the test became necessary to address the high rate of marriage breakdowns and reduce drug abuse among married couples in the state.
“Investigations have shown that one spouse often introduces the other to drugs after marriage and their children, hindering efforts to combat drug abuse.”
He called on the Kano State House of Assembly to enact a law requiring drug tests before marriage.
The commander appealed to women, youths, and the general public to shun drug abuse and work together to move the state and nation forward.
“The test initiative approach seeks to tackle drug abuse at its roots, promoting a healthier and more sustainable society,” Idris-Ahmad said.

White House Reacts to Reports Of Biden Withdrawing From Presidential Race
The White House has debunked reports that President Joe Biden is planning to quit the US presidential election to hold in November.
White House spokeswoman denied the report on Wednesday, according to AFP.
Panic had gripped Democrats in the wake of last week’s TV debate, and internal rumblings about finding a replacement candidate before November’s election have been amplified by polls showing Trump extending his lead.
The New York Times and CNN reported that Biden, 81, had acknowledged to a key ally that his reelection bid was on the line if he failed to quickly reassure the public that he was still up to the job.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre rejected those reports outright, insisting Biden has no intention of withdrawing.
“The president is clear-eyed and he is staying in the race,” she told reporters.
In a call with campaign and party staffers, Biden insisted he was going nowhere.
“I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win because when Democrats unite, we will always win. Just as we beat Donald Trump in 2020, we’re going to beat him again in 2024,” he said, according to a source close to the campaign.
He repeated that message in an emergency meeting at the White House with Democratic governors, who pledged their continued support, attendees said afterward.
“As the president continued to tell us, and show us, that he was all in… we said that we would stand with him,” Maryland Governor Wes Moore, seen as a rising star and potential future presidential candidate, told reporters alongside Minnesota’s Tim Walz and Kathy Hochul of New York.
Walz said Biden was “fit to serve.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who also attended the meeting and is seen as one of the top picks to replace Biden if he should drop out, said on X that he “is our nominee.”
“He is in it to win it and I support him,” she added.
Biden has repeatedly admitted he performed poorly in the debate, and was blunt in a radio interview recorded Wednesday with Wisconsin’s Civic Media.
“I screwed up. I made a mistake. That’s 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I’ve done in 3.5 years,” he said

Dangote Opposition to 30 per cent Interest Rate Proves Me Right – Peter Obi
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has reacted after Aliko Dangote slammed the federal government over its decision to hike interest rate to 30 per cent.
Dangote had said such a move will chase away investors planning to invest in the country.
Obi had argued against the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee to increase the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) and the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) to 22.5% and 45%, respectively.
He insisted it would further worsen the economic situation, as the increases would push interest rates on loans to above 30%, which, according to him, would make it very difficult for manufacturers and MSMEs to borrow and repay.
In a statement on Thursday via his X handle, Obi said that Africa’s foremost entrepreneur and respected Nigerian businessman, Aliko Dangote, stating that no jobs will be created with such a high interest rate is consistent with his own position over time.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that the country must urgently reverse the ugly trend.
According to him, it is seriously resulting in further job losses, discouraging production in the nation, and has continued to hinder Nigeria’s movement from consumption to production.
Obi’s words: “Africa’s foremost entrepreneur and respected Nigerian businessman, Aliko Dangote’s recent outcry against the current interest rate of 30% underscores my earlier cry in February on the negative effects of the monetary policy of the present Federal Government.
“According to Dangote, no jobs will be created with such a high interest rate because there will be no growth in the economy. This has been my consistent position over time.
“In February this year, I argued against the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee to increase the MPR to 22.5% and the CRR to 45%, which, in my opinion, would further worsen the economic situation, as the increases would push interest rates on loans to above 30%, making it very difficult for manufacturers and MSMEs to borrow and repay.
“If Dangote, the richest person in Africa and foremost industrialist, can complain, then imagine the negative impacts of these policies on MSMEs, who are the engine of economic growth.
“To further understand the harsh economic environment that this monetary policy has exacerbated, the recent report from the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) stated: ‘In 2023, 767 companies were shut down and 335 became distressed.
“The capacity utilization in the sector has declined to 56%; the interest rate is effectively above 30%; foreign exchange to import raw materials and production machines is scarce; inventory of unsold finished products has increased to N350 billion; and the real growth rate has dropped to 2.4%.
“These harsh economic policies, both on the monetary and fiscal sides, have continued to slow down our economic growth, drive multinationals out of the country, stifle our small businesses, and discourage the inflow of foreign direct investment.
“Again, I maintain that we must urgently reverse this ugly trend which is seriously resulting in further job losses, discouraging production in our nation, and has continued to hinder our movement from consumption to production.
“We need to reverse course and only initiate policies that can lead to growth and the birth of a new Nigeria.
“A New Nigeria is Possible.”

Police Set To Arraign Popular Nigerian Prankster, ZFancy Over Alleged Rape, Inciteful Content
The Nigeria Police Force has announced its preparedness to initiate legal proceedings against Ubani Zion Chibuike, known as ZFancy, a popular prankster, for creating and disseminating provocative content on his social media channels.
The Force released a statement on Thursday morning, signed by its spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alleging that the detained content creator had engaged in serious offences that pose a significant threat to national security, leading to his arrest and detention.
It was learned that ZFancy was arrested on Wednesday at an apartment in Wuye, Abuja.
“This arrest follows the circulation of accusatory videos on social media, in which ZFancy was alleged to have committed heinous crimes, including rape. These videos caused significant apprehension among social media users,” the police’s statement reads.
It continued: “Furthermore, ZFancy came out and claimed the videos were scripted and part of his attempt to regain the spotlight after a break. Regardless, such actions have serious implications and cannot be taken lightly. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to maintaining public safety and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for actions that incite fear or disturb public peace.
“The Police therefore warns pranksters and content creators to be law-abiding and be conscious of pranks and contents that could pose threats to the public and jeopardise the general security of our country. We urge the public to remain calm as we proceed with the necessary legal actions in this case.”
ZFancy is not the first prankster arrested by the Nigerian police over his content. In 2023, the police also arrested and sued an Oyo State-based skit maker and prankster, Abdullahi Maruff Adisa, popularly known as Trinity Guy, for sexualising a minor in a viral skit video.
Trinity Guy was later granted bail after spending four weeks in prison custody.
The trial court had also ordered the remand of Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife Rofiat Ahmed, 29, who are the parents of the minor.
The police charged Abdullahi, alongside the parents of the victim with conspiracy, sexual abuse and exploitation.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Oluwakemi Arowosaye, earlier informed the court that Trinity Guy, was arrested for sexually abusing and exploiting a 10-year-old girl in the Kuola neighbourhood of Ibadan on December 17, 2022.

It Is Ridiculous For A Poor Man’s Daughter To Say She Cannot Marry A Poor Man
Reno Omokri
Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has stated that it makes no sense for a lady who comes from a poor background to say she cannot marry a poor man.
According to him, she came from poverty and has no right to dictate wealth.
He stated that if a woman can endure the poverty of her father, she should also be able to endure the same of her husband.
Omokri stated that a poor woman is not a scarce commodity.
See Post Below;
Responding, a Nigerian man, Omera Ugbede Opaluwa, disagreed with Reno Omokri, stating that his daughters will never marry poor men.
According to Opaluwa, no woman deserves a poor man.
He wrote;
“Sir Reno Omokri, I disagree with this respectfully. There was a time I posted on this space that my daughter(s) will never marry a poor man, if others like let them teach their own children to marry a poor man,” he wrote.
“People came up with series of disagreements about my own opinion which is not theirs like I don’t have the right to make my choice anymore.
“This post reminds me of that my old post and I still stand by it that our wish as parents is for our children to be better than us, why then will I wish my own daughter the type of man her mother married again?
“Even in the Bible, after Jesus died the sins of the parents were no longer transfered to the offsprings, why should my own daughter not marry a better and richer man than me the father?
“If me and her mother made a mistake in getting married, she should learn from the mistakes not repeating same.
“No one woman deserves a poor man just like even a poor man does not deserve poverty.”

12-Year-Old Schoolgirl Mauled To Death By Crocodile After She Went For Swim In River
In what will come across as a really heartbreaking development, a 12-year-old schoolgirl, has been killed by a crocodile.
She was killed when she went for a swim in a river in Australia.
The tragic schoolgirl was dragged to her death in Palumpa, northern Australia after she vanished when she went for a swim.
The alarm was raised when she went missing after she was last seen swimming in Mango Creek.
Police tragically confirmed her remains had been found today, Thursday, July 4, despite a frantic 36-hour search.
Authorities described the scene as “particularly gruesome.”
Northern Territory Police Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said: “This morning, as a result of searching intensively overnight, the remains of the missing child were located in the riverway.
“It was particularly gruesome and a sad, devastating outcome. It was extremely difficult for the first responders involved in the search.
“As awful as the outcome is, it’s been an incredible effort from the people involved. I certainly would commend the actions of everyone involved.
“They were diligent and worked relentlessly. However, for the family, it’s the most devastating outcome possible for them.
“They are in a state of extreme shock and disbelief. “
Northern Territory police minister Brent Potter said officers had been authorised to “remove” the killer crocodile as he warned locals to be vigilant.
He said: “We live in a place where crocodiles occupy our water places… it’s just a reminder to stay out of the water as best we can.”
Sgt Gibson said a black crocodile was seen in the sea close to where the schoolgirl had been swimming as police used boats, helicopters and officers on foot to no avail.
