Nigerian Politicians Should Also Earn N70,000 Minimum Wage – Activist, Joe

A Niger Delta human rights activist, Israel Joe has reacted to the recent new minimum wage approved by the President Bola Tinubu government.

He called on the federal government to place politicians irrespective of their rankings in the country on seventy thousand naira minimum wage like civil servants.

Comrade Joe made the call in a statement sent to newsmen in Warri, Delta State

He argued that if ₦70,000, minimum wage is good for civil servants, it should also be good for politicians.

He stressed that citizens have equal rights to better living and welfare.

Joe, however, asked workers not to celebrate the increase in the minimum wage but to sorrow over it, saying, “My simple opinion is that the minimum wage can’t even purchase a bag of rice and we should not joy over what we should sorrow over.”

He expressed sadness that a country with so much wealth would have to pay its workforce a minimum wage of less than $50 (dollars).

“Our workers have finally settled for servitude and slavery.”

Comrade Joe appreciated the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, TUC for raising the bar to 100%.

Betta Edu Secretly Returns As Humanitarian Minister Despite EFCC’s N585 Million Probe? SEE Details – HEARD VOICE NEWS ONLINE

Published

on

By

In early 2024, Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, was thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
On January 8, she was suspended from her position amid growing public anger over an alleged N585 million scandal. The scandal involved a large sum of money— N585, 198, 500. 00— that was allegedly misappropriated and transferred into a personal account.
According to reports, a letter bearing Edu’ s signature surfaced. The letter showed that she had ordered the Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to move the funds into the private account of one Oniyelu Bridget, a civil servant.
The money was supposedly meant for grants to vulnerable groups in four states. This raised many eyebrows, and soon, the scandal became public, sparking outrage across the country.
The outrage prompted Nigeria’ s president, Bola Tinubu, to take swift action. He suspended Betta Edu from her position, marking the first time a member of his 48- man cabinet had been removed.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched an investigation into the matter, seeking to uncover the truth behind the alleged theft. Edu was briefly detained but later released on bail as the probe continued.
Months passed, and it seemed that the case had disappeared from the headlines. However, in July 2024, something unexpected happened. Betta Edu quietly resumed her role as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
This was revealed when she sent an official condolence message to the victims of a building collapse in Jos. The message was sent using her ministry’ s official letterhead and seal, indicating that she had returned to her duties.
This move raised several questions. When exactly was Betta Edu reinstated, and why was there no formal announcement? More importantly, what had happened to the EFCC investigation? Had the probe concluded, or was it quietly brushed aside?...Read More

The silence from the government on this issue is troubling. The EFCC did disclose that it had recovered N30 billion and was investigating 50 bank accounts connected to the scandal. However, beyond these revelations, there has been little transparency about the case.
Was Betta Edu’ s suspension and investigation merely a show to convince Nigerians that the government was serious about fighting corruption? Or was there a genuine effort to hold her accountable?
As Betta Edu continues her work at the ministry, the public remains in the dark about the outcome of the investigation. The lack of clarity has left many wondering whether the federal government is truly committed to addressing corruption within its ranks or if this was just another deceptive move to shield one of its own from public scrutiny.
For now, Betta Edu remains in her position, and the questions surrounding her return and the probe against her remain unanswered. The silence from the government leaves a cloud of doubt, and until there is a clear resolution, this case will continue to raise suspicions about how serious the fight against corruption in Nigeria truly is.

Asue Ighodalo

The nomination of Asue Ighodalo as the 2024 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has been upheld by the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja.

In a ruling by Justice Musali JCA, in the suit marked CA/ABJ/CV/764/2024, the court held that the delegates who sought to nullify the PDP primaries lacked legal standing.

According to the Appeal Court, Section 84(14) of the Electoral Act, did not give delegates to a primary election the legal right to challenge the outcome as it concerns the elected candidate.

Justice Musali explained that only aspirants who contested the primary election with the candidate, Ighodalo, have the legal stand to challenge the outcome of the primary election.

“They are delegates and not aspirants. Delegates do not have any locus to challenge the process of the primary election,” Justice Musali held.

Asue Ighodalo remains the elected candidate in line with the February 22 primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming September 21st election in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the PDP Edo State chapter and the governorship candidate have yet to react to the ruling, but a member of the Asue Ighodalo campaign council, Anthony Ehilebo, on his X handle, has hailed the victory.

As the days for the Edo State governorship election draw closer, the three major candidates, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, have intensified efforts to woo the voters.

Elon Musk Sparks Speculation with Cryptic Post on X: “I Am Willing to Serve”

Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the tech visionary and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has once again captured the internet’s attention with a cryptic post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The post, which has quickly gone viral, features an image of Musk standing confidently in front of a podium emblazoned with the acronym “D.O.G.E,” which intriguingly stands for “Department of Government Efficiency.” The image is accompanied by a simple yet powerful statement: “I am willing to serve.”...Read More

This enigmatic post has sparked widespread speculation about Musk’s intentions. Known for his playful engagement with internet culture, particularly his affinity for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, many are left wondering if this is another of his lighthearted jests or a more serious statement about his views on governmental reform.

The acronym “D.O.G.E” immediately caught the eye of many, drawing connections to Musk’s well-documented support for Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that started as a meme but has since garnered significant attention, partly due to Musk’s endorsements. However, the inclusion of “Department of Government Efficiency” adds a new layer to the conversation, hinting at a potential critique or proposal regarding the efficiency of government operations.

Musk’s willingness to “serve” has left his followers and the broader public questioning whether this is a genuine offer to step into a role within governmental operations or a clever commentary on the current state of efficiency in government. Given Musk’s track record of challenging established norms in industries ranging from automotive to space exploration, the post could be seen as a provocative statement on his readiness to bring his innovative approach to public service.

While some speculate that this could be Musk teasing a potential foray into politics, others see it as another instance of his creative use of social media to spark dialogue on serious topics through humor and satire. The image and its accompanying message are open to interpretation, allowing Musk to once again demonstrate his mastery of keeping the public guessing.

As the post continues to circulate and generate discussion, one thing is clear: Elon Musk has successfully ignited another round of speculation and intrigue, reinforcing his position as a leading figure not just in technology and business, but in the broader cultural landscape as well. Whether this is the beginning of a new chapter in Musk’s already storied career, or simply another example of his unique way of engaging with the world, only time will tell. ...Read More

Soldiers Are Not Fed Substandard Meals — Army

The Nigerian Army has debunked a report of substandard meals being fed to soldiers at the frontlines....Read More

The Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, stated this while reacting to a viral video alleging that soldiers of 159 Battalion in Kanama, Geidam local government area of Yobe State, were being poorly fed.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, following the incident ordered an investigation headed by the Commander, Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI, to ascertain the veracity of the claim with a view to address any problem of poor feeding in the unit.

He, however, said the findings of the investigation indicated that the video was not recorded by Soldiers of 159 Battalion but a Police officer deployed with the troops.

He added that contrary to the video, “no personnel in that location was served substandard meal as shown in the video.”

He said: “it is crucial to clarify that the video in question was not created by soldiers of 159 Battalion, but was rather recorded by a police officer stationed with the troops deployed in Geidam.

“Preliminary investigation has also revealed that the police officer who recorded and shared the video did so with an ulterior motive yet to be uncovered by the investigation. It is anticipated to be unravelled during further investigation.”

General Nwachukwu stated that the leadership of the Nigerian Army places premium on the welfare and well-being of troops and their families to ensure that they are adequately rewarded and motivated.

He said the Army Chief has continued to “show undeniable passion and commitment to the well-being of soldiers, particularly those deployed in the frontlines, where they are making priceless sacrifices in defence of the nation and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens. This is evident in the several welfare schemes berthed and currently implemented by the COAS. These include increase in the Ration Cash Allowance, prompt medical evacuation of wounded in action soldiers for both foreign and local treatments, commencement of payment of the backlog of Group Life Insurance Scheme that had accumulated since 2012. Affordable House Ownership Option for all Soldiers (AHOOAS) with the COAS offsetting about 60 percent of the cost, and the activation of Personnel Insurance Scheme payments to soldiers who incur injury in combat operations.”
