This award underscores NTT’s strategic focus on embedding sustainability directly into its business and operational core. The company actively pioneers new methods for adopting renewable energy and continuously refines data center cooling technologies to maximize energy efficiency.
Steven So, Chief Technology Officer of NTT Com Asia, accepted the trophy at the award ceremony. He emphasized the growing importance of sustainable infrastructure.
“In the AI era, data centers have become the power engine of the new digital economy, and sustainability has become strategic priorities of our company,” So stated. “Receiving this award is a recognition of our efforts toward environmental stewardship. We expect to partner with CLP to adopt new smart solutions and renewable energy initiatives.”
Driving Renewable Energy Adoption
A flagship project demonstrating this commitment is Hong Kong’s largest car park solar panel installation, located at NTT’s Tseung Kwan O Financial Data Center campus. This large-scale initiative features 1,000 m² of solar panels covering 71 parking spaces.
The system generates over 200,000 kWh of electricity annually. It is connected to the CLP grid and participates in the CLP Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Scheme. This project is a tangible example of NTT’s drive to adopt renewable energy to meet its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets.
Pioneering Energy-Efficient Data Center Technologies
Beyond renewable energy, NTT invests heavily in cutting-edge data center technologies designed to improve energy efficiency. This includes deploying Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) technology. DLC is crucial for managing the intense power demands of modern AI infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance with lower energy consumption.
The company also collaborates with CLP to purchase renewable energy certificates. These certificates cover the electricity used for EV charging at its campus car park. This effort is part of a broader strategy to manage and optimize the company’s carbon footprint.
Industry Recognition for Sustainable Leadership
Lena Low, CLP Power Senior Director – Customer Success and Experience, congratulated NTT on its achievement. She highlighted the critical role of smart energy in supporting the digital economy’s infrastructure.
“CLP believes that smart energy management and renewable energy are the cornerstones of sustainable long-term development,” Low remarked. “This is particularly true for organizations managing mission-critical infrastructure that supports the digital economy.”
Low added, “By leveraging our expertise in electricity and integrating innovative technologies, we help customers optimize system design and energy management to enhance operational efficiency. We look forward to exploring further collaboration opportunities with industry leaders such as NTT.”
This prestigious Energy Management award solidifies NTT Com Asia’s position as a leader in sustainable data center operations. Its multifaceted approach—combining large-scale renewable projects, advanced cooling technologies, and strategic energy partnerships—sets a strong industry benchmark.
