There are 26 of them, and are now officially members of the French delegation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) announced this Friday a new list of athletes selected for the Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11) in four sports: boxing, fencing, surfing and sailing. In many cases, it is simply the formalization of a selection already acquired sportingly.
This is the case of boxer Estelle Mossely, gold at the Rio Games, guaranteed to be present in Paris since June 2023. Silver in Brazil eight years ago, Sofiane Oumiha is in the same case and appears in this list of eight athletes retained by the French Boxing Federation and validated by the CNOSF.
In fencing, foil fencer Enzo Lefort and saber fencer Manon Apithy-Brunet are unsurprisingly among the first French fencers selected to win medals on the slopes of the Grand Palais. In addition to Manon Apithy-Brunet, individual bronze medalist at the last Games, world No. 1 Sara Balzer obviously appears in the list of three starters, like Cécilia Berder. Three of the four silver team members in Tokyo.
On the foil side, there is also a bonus for medalists: all the Olympic team champions are selected, except the retired Erwann Le Péchoux who became coach of Japan. The shooters selected in the other four weapons remain to be revealed. The composition of the women’s foil will be the last revealed. It must be announced, according to the Federation, during the final consultative commission for the CNOSF Olympic selections, on July 5, taking into account the situation of its headliner Ysaora Thibus, provisionally suspended due to a positive test for an anabolic agent, ostarine, while waiting to perhaps prove contamination.
Olympic champion in Rio and silver in Tokyo three years ago, windsurfer Charline Picon had to change discipline and will try her luck in the Marseille marina, associated with Sarah Steyaert in 49er FX.
