In a scathing post shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Adeyanju accused the police of overstepping their constitutional mandate.
“The Nigerian Police are forever shameless for trying to interfere with Osun LGA elections,” Adeyanju wrote. “The police are not politicians. Their duty is protection of life and property at all times.”
He added. In a related news, the Chairman, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye has called out the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly arresting staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state.
While commending the electorates for coming out to exercise their right, he appealed to the media community for the inability of the commission to provide accreditation materials, stating that the Police had sealed off OSSIEC head office where the material were kept.
He maintained that for the units where material didn’t arrive early, it was due to Police arrest of the officials conveying the materials adding that new materials have been deployed and voting is now ongoing.
The Osun LGA elections, which are critical for grassroots governance, continue to unfold under close scrutiny from both the public and civil society groups amid political tensions in the state.
