To become a successful person in under a year, it’s time to let go of these 7 habits.
It’s essential to distinguish between habits that propel us forward and those that hinder our progress. If you aim to achieve success within a year, it’s crucial to eliminate certain habits immediately.....Read Full Article>>
While some of these habits may appear harmless or even beneficial at first glance, they can actually impede your advancement. Drawing from my own experiences, I’ll share seven habits you need to abandon. Let’s get started.
1) Procrastination
Procrastination is perhaps the most significant obstacle on the path to success. This common habit can catch even the most diligent individuals off guard. One moment you’re excited about a project, and the next you find yourself scrolling through social media, postponing your tasks until tomorrow.
Procrastination is deceptive; it tricks you into believing you have more time than you do. Before you know it, deadlines are approaching, and anxiety sets in. Successful individuals recognize the value of time management and prioritize their tasks effectively.
If you aspire to achieve success in under a year, it’s time to let go of procrastination. Once you conquer this habit, you’ll feel unstoppable. Remember, every minute counts on your journey to success—don’t allow procrastination to rob you of your valuable time.
2) Negativity
Negativity is another habit that can obstruct your success. I once allowed negative thoughts and self-doubt to dominate my mindset. Every time I faced a challenge, I’d question my abilities, thinking, “I can’t do this.” This mentality held me back from realizing my true potential.
Eventually, I decided to shift my thought patterns consciously. Whenever negative thoughts arose, I countered them with positive affirmations. This wasn’t an overnight transformation, but gradually, my confidence grew, allowing me to tackle challenges with a more optimistic attitude. This shift played a vital role in the success I enjoy today.
If negativity often clouds your thoughts, it’s time to let it go. Replace it with positivity and watch as new opportunities for success unfold.
3) Fear of Failure
Did you know that many highly successful people have faced significant failures? J.K. Rowling, for example, was rejected by 12 publishers before her first Harry Potter book was accepted.
Fear of failure can paralyze you, preventing you from taking risks or stepping outside your comfort zone. This fear keeps you stagnant, hindering your growth and potential. Successful individuals understand that failure is not the end; it’s a crucial part of their journey. They embrace their setbacks, learn from their mistakes, and use them as stepping stones toward greater achievements.
If you want to be successful within a year, it’s time to release your fear of failure. Embrace it as a natural part of your journey, knowing that each failure brings you closer to success.
4) Perfectionism
While striving for excellence is admirable, there’s a fine line between aiming for your best and seeking absolute perfection. Perfectionism can lead to a never-ending cycle of dissatisfaction, where nothing feels good enough, impacting your mood, productivity, and overall success.
Perfectionists often spend excessive time on tasks, trying to achieve every detail flawlessly. This can result in missed deadlines, heightened stress, and burnout. Successful people recognize the importance of doing their best but also know when to move on. They understand that perfection is often unattainable, prioritizing efficiency over flawlessness.
If you identify as a perfectionist, it’s time to abandon this habit. Focus on progress rather than perfection, and you’ll find yourself moving closer to success in less than a year.
5) Overworking
I once believed that relentless work was the key to success, leading me to long hours, skipped meals, and little sleep. While I was achieving a lot, it came at a high cost.
Eventually, I found myself burned out and unhappy, with deteriorating health and strained relationships. I learned that overworking was not the answer; it only led to exhaustion. I made a conscious decision to prioritize balance. Work is important, but so are rest and leisure.
Once I began taking care of myself, my health improved, along with my productivity and creativity. I felt happier, more focused, and surprisingly, more successful.
Overworking might seem like a shortcut to success, but it’s not sustainable in the long run. If you want to succeed in under a year, you must strike a balance—work hard, but also ensure you rest well. Your future self will appreciate it.
6) Living in the Past
Dwelling on past mistakes or missed opportunities can significantly hinder your progress. This habit traps you in a cycle of regret, preventing you from moving forward.
What’s done is done; you can’t change the past, but you can learn from it. Successful individuals take lessons from their experiences and use them to create a better future. Living in the past robs you of the chance to enjoy the present and plan for what lies ahead.
Every day presents a new opportunity to start fresh and make better choices. If you often find yourself fixated on the past, it’s time to let go. Focus on the present and plan for the future, and you’ll be on the path to success in less than a year.
7) Ignoring Self-Care
One of the most vital habits to abandon if you want to achieve success in under a year is neglecting self-care. Success isn’t solely about reaching work-related goals or increasing your income; it’s also about maintaining your health, happiness, and inner peace.
Neglecting self-care can lead to stress, burnout, and health issues. Conversely, prioritizing your physical, mental, and emotional well-being can boost your energy, improve your mood, and enhance productivity.
Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential for success. Make it a point to prioritize your health today. Exercise regularly, maintain a balanced diet, get adequate sleep, take necessary breaks, and engage in activities that bring you joy.
You are your most valuable asset. Nurture yourself, and success will follow.
Final Thoughts: The Transformation Journey
Achieving success is not merely about checking off goals or climbing the corporate ladder; it’s about transforming yourself and evolving into a better version of who you are.
Letting go of these seven habits is not just about discarding negative behaviors; it’s about creating space for new, positive habits that will pave your way to success.
Remember, change can be challenging, but it is always possible. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said, “Your life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change.”
So begin today. Release these habits, embrace change, and watch as success follows in less than a year.

JUST IN: Lagos woman bites off neighbor’s tongue in dispute over bucket
Residents of Aribisala Street in the Igando area of Lagos State were thrown into confusion on Thursday after a woman identified simply as Fatima allegedly cut off the tongue of her neighbour, Mitsura.....Read Full Article>>
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened while the duo was doing laundry on the premises where they live.
Trouble was said to have was said to started when Fatima who is in her early thirties allegedly accused Mitsura of using her bucket without taking permission from her.
This was said to have degenerated into an argument that eventually led to a fight between them.
During the fight, Fatima allegedly strangled Mitsura and bit off her protruded tongue in the process.
Speaking to our correspondent after the incident, on Thursday, the landlady who identified herself simply as Mama Ibadan, said she had earlier settled a fight between them.
She said, “They were both washing when neighbours called to inform me that they were fighting each other over the bucket. I quickly rushed down there to settle the fight and also appeal to both of them. It was after I had left that I heard people shouting that someone’s tongue had been cut off. It was when I got there that I saw Mitsura’s mouth soaked in blood. That was how I got to know that her tongue had been bitten off by Fatima.”
Mitsura who just turned 18 years was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. She was however said to have been rejected at three different private hospitals before she was later admitted at the Igando General Hospital.
“We immediately took her to a nearby hospital but she was rejected. This was the same with two other hospitals that we went to before we later took her to the general hospital. Fatima’s husband who was called and informed about what happened had also gone to the hospital,” a neighbour who gave her name as Funke told our correspondent.
Another neighbour, who preferred anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the incident, described the victim as an orphan, adding that she recently moved in to live with her friends, who rented an apartment in the building.
She said, “Mitsura had lost her parents. So due to accommodation challenges, she decided to move in with her female friends who rented an apartment here. The friends were not around when the incident happened. But when they heard what happened, they had to rush home quickly. After they took her to the hospital, they went to the police station to make a report.”
Our correspondent learnt that Fatima attempted to flee after committing the act but was restrained by some residents.
As of the time of filing this report, Fatima was being handed over to the police for prosecution.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said he was not aware of the incident. “I am not aware,” he said.
