HONG KONG SAR – Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Company Limited celebrated a significant milestone yesterday. The inaugural “Hong Kong Student Ambassador Programme for Chinese Medicine and Health Care” held its graduation ceremony. This event marked a key expansion of the company’s decade-long “Tong Ren Tang Stroke Prevention Campaign” into educational institutions.

Over 50 students from five local schools received certificates, officially designating them as “Hong Kong Student Ambassadors for Chinese Medicine and Health Care.” They pledged to promote traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health culture within their communities.

Cultivating the Next Generation of TCM Advocates

Launched in March, this pioneering programme represented a new direction for the long-running community health initiative. With support from China Mobile Hong Kong’s “Edubile” education brand, students engaged in the “Tong Ren Smart Green Chinese Herbal Medicine Cultivation Course.”

The curriculum blended theoretical TCM knowledge with hands-on technological practice. Participants learned herbal planting techniques and used 5G+AIoT technology to monitor and analyze plant growth data. This approach fostered scientific research skills and innovative thinking.

Students also gained immersive experiences through visits to the Beijing Tong Ren Tang Tai Po Production and R&D Base and the China Mobile Hong Kong 5G Lab. They observed production lines, experienced the intangible cultural heritage pill-rolling technique, and created traditional herbal sachets. These sachets were later gifted to elderly community members during stroke prevention lectures, allowing students to directly apply their learning.

The graduation was part of a larger event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the “Tong Ren Tang Stroke Prevention Campaign.” Mr. Yan Han, Executive Director and Chairman of the Board, reflected on the initiative’s impact.

He stated that the campaign has consistently promoted the TCM concept of “preventive treatment of disease.” Over ten years, it has expanded from targeting high-risk and elderly groups to include workplaces and now, academic institutions. The cumulative effort has involved over 10,000 hours and generated more than five million engagements.

Mr. Tsang Yok-sing, Independent Non-Executive Director, commended the programme’s success. He highlighted the importance of sparking curiosity in youth about TCM and technology, calling it the work of a responsible enterprise.

Student Ambassadors Share Their Journey

At the ceremony, students enthusiastically shared their experiences. A pupil from Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chor Si Primary School expressed gratitude for the pill-rolling workshop. They discovered that the technique required immense skill, far beyond its simple appearance.

A student from Shun Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College said the programme broadened their horizons. It enhanced their innovative thinking and sense of social responsibility through community service.

Another from S.K.H. Tin Shui Wai Ling Oi Primary School noted how planting herbs and visiting the 5G lab demonstrated technology’s role in advancing TCM. They committed to sharing stroke prevention knowledge to help others.

Building a Healthier Future

The “Hong Kong Student Ambassador Programme for Chinese Medicine and Health Care” aims to plant the seeds of TCM culture in the younger generation. By integrating traditional wisdom with modern technology, Beijing Tong Ren Tang is fostering a future-literate health community. The company continues to enhance public health awareness and contribute TCM’s unique strengths to societal well-being.
