In a recent interview, Davido expressed his concerns about the state of the Nigerian economy, stating, “The economy is in shambles, and Americans should not bother to relocate to the country or invest in it.” He elaborated, “Leave America and go where? Go back where? It’s not cool back home. My country now, the economy is in shambles. The exchange rate is messed up.
A lot of stuff not going well. The economy is not just good anymore. The oil prices are too high. Imagine a country that produces oil. We produce the oil and we paying more money for oil than a country that imports the oil.”
Nyma Akashat Zibiri countered Davido’s statement, arguing that his comments were detrimental to President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to attract foreign investors. She also defended the removal of fuel subsidies as a positive step taken by the current administration.
In response, Verydarkman challenged Zibiri to provide evidence of the investors brought into the country by President Tinubu and his cabinet. He argued that the president was more focused on securing loans rather than fostering genuine investment relationships. Verydarkman further claimed that most investors were involved in illicit deals with politicians over the country’s resources.
While acknowledging that Davido might not be in the best position to prevent foreign investments, Verydarkman emphasized that the singer’s comments were rooted in the harsh economic realities faced by many Nigerians. He pointed out that several top companies, including Cusson, Kimberly-Clark, and Microsoft, had exited Nigeria due to the challenging business environment.
