The speculation began circulating on social media on Monday, February 10, alleging that the governor had secretly impregnated the reality TV star.
Shortly after the rumors gained traction, Governor Diri’ s office released an official statement refuting the claims. This came after Nengi herself took to social media to confirm her pregnancy while debunking the allegations. Nengi, a Bayelsa- born reality star, addressed the rumors in a series of tweets, stating categorically: ” I’ m not pregnant for any governor. ”
She emphasized that the speculation was not only false but also disrespectful to individuals she holds in high regard. She further stated:
> ” I won’ t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly. While I continue to mind my business and enjoy my pregnancy in peace, I wish y’ all love and a happy Valentine’ s weekend. ”
According to Premium Times, Governor Diri’ s Director General of New Media dismissed the allegations as false and politically driven. The governor’ s media aide clarified that there is no personal relationship between Governor Diri and Nengi, stressing that the trending story was an attempt to tarnish the governor’ s reputation.
He further alleged that political opponents were responsible for spreading the misinformation, aiming to distract the public from the governor’ s achievements, particularly as he marked his fifth anniversary in office.
Initially planning to run for the Senate, Diri instead found himself in the House of Representatives in 2015 due to Jonathan’ s political maneuvering. This decision ultimately set the stage for his emergence as governor of Bayelsa State.
