A housewife, Mariam AbdulLateef, has urged the Area Court in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Tajudeen AbdulLateef, citing an alleged lack of marital intimacy.

Mariam informed the court on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, that she married her husband in 2016 under Islamic law, and their union is blessed with a seven-year-old daughter.

However, she lamented that Tajudeen stopped fulfilling his marital responsibilities approximately seven years ago and abandoned their matrimonial bed after the birth of their child.

“He doesn’t even sleep in the same room or come close to me, and whenever I ask for his attention, he tells me to leave his house if I’m tired of the marriage,” Mariam stated.

She pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage so she could move on with her life and remarry.

“My husband has been tormenting me with baseless accusations of infidelity while refusing to fulfill his marital obligations, which is affecting my mental health,” she said.

On his part, Tajudeen told the court that his inability to fulfill his wife’s needs was due to a health condition he had been battling, for which he is actively seeking treatment.

He added that he was unwilling to divorce his wife, expressing his love for her and appreciation for her patience.

Presiding Judge Hammad Ajumonbi acknowledged the importance of intimacy in marriage, stressing that neglecting this aspect should not be taken lightly.

The judge encouraged the couple to resolve their issues amicably and urged Mariam to exercise more patience while her husband works on his health challenges.
