According to reports, the 28-year-old victim, identified as Dinesh, was fast asleep in the early hours of October 2 when he suddenly woke up to an unbearable burning sensation. He later discovered that his wife, Sadhana, had allegedly poured boiling oil on his face and torso before sprinkling chilli powder on his open wounds.
The attack reportedly took place around 3:15 a.m. in their rented apartment, which the couple shared with their six-month-old daughter. Dinesh, who works as a medical representative, claimed that his wife threatened to pour more oil if he called for help.
His agonizing screams alerted neighbors, but witnesses said Sadhana initially refused to open the door. It took the intervention of the landlord’s family before the door was forced open. Dinesh was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors placed him in intensive care due to the severity of his burns.
Residents in the neighborhood told reporters that the couple had been living in the building for about seven months and were known for frequent domestic quarrels. One neighbor, identified as Manju, said the couple’s relationship had been unstable for some time, while another resident, Anjali, confirmed hearing Dinesh’s cries before help arrived.
Local authorities said the couple had been married for eight years and had a history of disputes that had previously drawn police attention. Officers at the Ambedkar Nagar Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered against Sadhana and that investigations are ongoing.
Police sources also revealed that forensic teams have been sent to the residence to collect evidence, while statements from neighbors and the landlord have been recorded to aid the investigation.
The attack has sparked public outrage across social media platforms in India, with many users expressing disbelief at the brutality of the act. Domestic violence advocates have called for stronger awareness and counseling interventions for couples in distress to prevent similar tragedies.
Meanwhile, doctors at Safdarjung Hospital said Dinesh remains in critical but stable condition, and he is expected to undergo multiple surgeries to treat his burns. Police say Sadhana is in custody and will face charges related to attempted murder and domestic violence.
The Delhi Police urged the public to report early signs of domestic abuse to prevent escalation, emphasizing that help is available for victims and families facing domestic challenges. ...Click to Read More >>➤
