Speaking during the state meeting of the association on Saturday, January 31, 2025, in Ogbaagbaa area of Osun, the National President, Omooba Adeola Ayoola, said the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the state has given approval for the event and assured support for the celebration.
He urged members of the association to join hands together, emphasizing the need for them to dress in a way that promotes a positive image of Egungun worshipers during the festival.
In a separate interview with AMILOADED, Omooba Adeola Ayoola stated that the association was formed to regulate the inappropriateness facing the Egungun festival and to provide support for the worshipers.
Also speaking, the Founder of Ijo Oje Parapo, Bamimore Ojo Ojebisi, said the association was initiated to form a quorum among Egungun worshipers in Nigeria and around the world.
He reiterated that Egungun is one of the greatest idols in history, promoting culture, while the association is a forum to coordinate, regulate, and offer useful suggestions to expand the Egungun festival.
Ojebisi called for unity among Egungun worshipers, urging them to avoid violence during the festival. He also warned them not to take Egungun to church or mosque, allowing peace to reign in the community.
Addressing newsmen, Osunnike Olosunde noted that Ijo Oje Parapo is a good association, emphasizing the need for the Egungun festival to be celebrated in a peaceful manner.
She added that people are coming from overseas to Nigeria to celebrate the festival with her.
In her own words, IyaOsun Omitunmise appealed to all members to work together in peace. She revealed that people overseas are embracing the Egungun festival, especially in Brazil, which she witnessed, and urged worshipers to stay away from violence.
Ifatayo Afolabi, Araba of Iwoland, said the meeting was an avenue to engage with association members on ways to move Ijo Oje Parapo forward in Osun state.
Speaking earlier during a courtesy visit to his palace, the Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, HRM Oba Sikiru Lahi Akinropo Olaleke, prayed for the progress of the association.
Oba Olaleke urged them to always celebrate the Egungun festival in a moderate way that adds value to the community. He urged the association to take security seriously during the festival to ensure a free and peaceful celebration.
Addressing association members, Ayilara Adegoke charged colleagues to always collect approval from the police before organizing the Egungun festival for security reasons.
The highlight of the event was crowdfunding, where the President donated N200,000 to the Osun chapter, and over N500,000 was raised in the process.
Present at the event were Alagbas from Osun and Oyo, as well as association members from across the state and other stakeholders.
