As young girls, don’t let the older men around you take advantage of you

Published

on

Please, please, please, let’s pay attention to the young girls around us! A 15-year-old called me from Edo State that she had no one to confide in and thought to call me to counsel her after reading my Saturday PUNCH article. That line as written is for WhatsApp only but I had a nudge in my spirit to pick up the call!...Read More

She went on to tell me how her 38-year-old neighbour had been telling her God said she’s his wife and has been wooing her with so much pressure. She sounded like she was already brainwashed and falling in love.

After telling her to steer clear of him, I told her to report to her parents only for her to tell me her parents live in Benue State. I can’t quite remember her reasons for not living with her parents at the moment but we all know because of the economic hardship and other reasons, too many girls are not living with their parents and neither are they being closely monitored.

An average girl not living with her parents is experiencing some form of abuse or the other. This girl was speaking quite incoherently, sounding exasperated and confused. I bet she lacks self-esteem and needs all the love in the world and that man could succeed in diverting the course of her destiny.

Who knows if he’s been giving her gifts no one has ever given her or buying her better food than she could ever get from her guardian and telling her she’s the most beautiful girl in the world, promising her heaven and earth? How won’t she fall for him? Then God forbids her from getting pregnant-her life suddenly takes a new turn.

Believe me, every single young girl out there is under undue pressure and confusion occasioned by a depraved world! You may be shocked to discover the guy who’s been harassing your young daughter.

Girls! Girls!! Girls!!! no matter what your youthful exuberance and Zeeworld may make you feel you know about love, in your teens, you’re 95% unlikely to know who you should end up with in marriage as you’re yet to discover yourself fully. Stop looking for trouble. Be patient! Be patient!! Be patient!!! Please.

The world is getting crazier by the day and only the fittest can survive. I’ve often said your teens should be spent concentrating on laying a solid foundation for your future, academically, psychologically, spiritually, emotionally and so on! Don’t let any guy scatter your head with love.

You’d always lose out. Time has proven that girls who don’t have romantic relationships in their teens usually turn out far better than those who fall under the crush of heavy heartbreaks and strings of boyfriends! The world is highly competitive and if you don’t prepare well enough when you have all the energy, passion and vivid imagination, you will certainly end up on the lower rung of the ladder of life and get trampled by men!

Yes! Start guarding your future and destiny instead of a foolish and unnecessary love affair and let the world’s most honourable and finest men rush you in future!

Dear All,

Every girl is an institution and the bedrock of the future society. We don’t want more street urchins, prostitutes and layabouts. We, our children and grandchildren, deserve a saner society in future although these are end times. Please chip in a word from time to time whenever you come across young girls, they need all the counsel they can get in a world where the female folk are victimised! May God send help to your children in Jesus’ mighty name and may God protect our girls from the devil itself!

8 Unique Wedding Traditions from Around the World

on

Weddings are universally celebrated as a union of love, but the ways in which different cultures honor this bond can be remarkably diverse and unique. Each tradition provides a fascinating insight into the values, beliefs, and histories of the communities that cherish them....Read More

Here are a few captivating wedding traditions from around the globe:

The Indian Baraat

The Baraat is a central element of Indian weddings, particularly in North Indian cultures. This lively and energetic procession symbolizes the groom’s readiness to marry and his commitment to his bride. It is a spectacle filled with music, dancing, and celebration, reflecting the joy and festivity of an Indian wedding.

Traditionally, the groom rides a beautifully adorned white horse, though modern variations include elephants, carriages, or luxury cars. The groom, dressed in elaborate attire such as a sherwani (a long coat-like garment), a safa (turban), and sometimes a sehra (a veil of flowers or beads), leads the procession. The decorated horse adds to the grandeur of the event. The Baraat showcases the cultural richness and community spirit of Indian weddings.

The Greek Money Dance

The Greek Money Dance is a lively and symbolic ritual that embodies the joy and prosperity wished upon the newlyweds. This vibrant practice encapsulates the essence of marriage: love, support, and community. It is a delightful tradition that honors heritage and brings people closer together, creating unforgettable memories.

The Igbo Wedding Tradition

The Igbo wedding tradition is a beautiful celebration that highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people. Central to this ceremony is the wine-carrying ritual. The bride receives a cup of palm wine from her father and offers it to her groom after a playful search among the guests. This act, met with cheers and applause, symbolizes the community’s approval and blessings for the couple. The ceremony also includes prayers and blessings from elders, invoking prosperity and happiness for the newlyweds.

Among the Maasai of East Africa, a traditional wedding is a vibrant community celebration rich with symbolism. The bride leaves her father’s home accompanied by singing and dancing, escorted to the groom’s village by her family and friends. The ceremony includes blessings from elders and rituals like the groom spitting on the bride’s head and breasts, signifying good fortune and fertility. The Maasai wedding traditions honor the past while celebrating the future, emphasizing unity and collective joy.

The Yoruba Wedding Engagement Ceremony

The Yoruba engagement ceremony is a colorful and joyous event that emphasizes respect, commitment, and family. The groom’s family arrives with gifts, formally requesting the bride’s hand in marriage. The ceremony includes symbolic acts such as kneeling and the exchange of gifts, reflecting the importance of family and community in Yoruba society.

The French La Mairie Wedding Ceremony

In France, the civil wedding ceremony at the town hall, known as “La Mairie,” is a charming and significant tradition. This mandatory civil ceremony blends formality, community, and romance. Regardless of any religious ceremonies that might follow, a wedding is not legally recognized in France without this official event.

The Paebaek Ceremony

The Paebaek ceremony is a cherished Korean tradition involving the symbolic tossing of chestnuts and dates by the parents, predicting the number of children the couple will have. This playful and meaningful tradition emphasizes the importance of family and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the couple’s lives.

The Hausa Wedding Ceremony

In Northern Nigeria, the Hausa community celebrates with the Kamu ceremony, where the bride is symbolically hidden and the groom’s family must “find” and “negotiate” for her release. This ritual highlights the bride’s value, the protective role of her family, and the groom’s readiness to support and cherish her. It underscores the importance of family involvement and communal support in Hausa weddings.

Popular Nigerian comedian, Dami Olatunde aka Aphrican Ace, has shared the tragic demise of his pre-term baby boy, Zion....Read More

In a post shared on his Instagram page, the bereaved comedian said Zion was supposed to be due for birth in October this year but had to be born on July 2, 26 weeks earlier.

The content creator said he and his wife went ahead with the baby shower they had planned on July 27. However, the next day, their baby boy who was in intensive care had a bacterial infection and sadly, passed away afterwards.

Read his post below;

‘’Zion Ayomikun Blue Olatunde …you were due in October, but you just couldn’t wait to meet mommy and daddy so you came super early at 26 weeks on July 2nd.

You were doing pretty well for a 26 weeker, so we decided to still proceed with your baby shower on July 27th as previously scheduled even before you came.

Then came July 28th when we got a call that you had gotten a bacterial infection…and from there it was one thing after another after another, which all happened so quickly back to back over the next few days.

Despite the words of the doctors, we were still very hopeful and optimistic that you’ll pull through, especially considering how long and hard you kept fighting which even blew the doctors’ minds. we prayed and prayed. But God decided to call you home during the early hours of August 1st with mommy and daddy right by your side.

I’ve never experienced this kind of pain before, but it’s crazy how despite the amount of pain you’re in, life still has to go on…literally right after. How quickly we went from plans of you coming home, to now talking to funeral homes. Hey God

We love you, and miss you so much Zion, but God’s will has been done, so we won’t question Him. We’ll just accept it knowing and believing that He has greater things in store for us. All things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose.”

Till we meet again, rest peacefully our dear son.”

Whenever You’re Making Hard Decisions, These Are 4 Things To Remember

Published

on

We are all on the journey towards adulthood, and we all know how difficult that path can be. Struggling to afford a place to live on our own, dealing with a variety of emotional relationship issues, climbing the corporate ladder, and being a good daughter, sister, and friend: all these things we deal with allow us to showcase our inner growth and strength as human beings....Read More

In the end, there will invariably be a hard decision we have to make in all aspects of our lives.

Do we leave a relationship that isn’t satisfying us? Do we move to a new city for a job opportunity? Do we say goodbye to a lifelong friendship because it’s a toxic relationship? It is in these moments that we face our true selves. We handle the hard decisions which allow us to become a little more of an adult than we thought we were. No one is saying these decisions are easy. That’s the point! They have to be hard. If they weren’t, we wouldn’t be able to grow as people. Here are some helpful rules when we are faced with some difficult decisions.

Get Clear On What You Really Want

Being an adult means that you finally know yourself. You know who you are and what you stand for. Waiting around for people to make your life easier is not always going to work out in your favor. In fact, relying on others is a recipe for disaster. Instead, get creative. But also stay practical. If you find yourself truly stuck between different possibilities, think about what you truly want. Ask yourself what it is that appeals to you about each decision. Is it a new job that has you struggling? Think about your current position and what the benefits are. Now, think about the new position. What does it feel to be in that new space? Do you feel lighter? Happier? If so, then the decision should be clear!

Don’t Choose Something Because You Think You Have To

This goes back to creativity. When it comes to making hard decisions, the options are never black and white. There are always shades of grey. Once you’ve undoubtedly figured out your desires, you will have to stay on that path! Don’t let the voices of others (or those in your head) get to you. It’s those deceptive voices that breed indecisiveness. If you want a better paying job in a different city, you can’t let the struggle of finding a place to live hinder an incredible opportunity. Avoid placing unnecessary pressure on yourself to find a place right away. Reach out to any possible contacts that you may have in that city. Trust me, you’ll be surprised at how people show up for you!

Doing Something Is Always Better Than Not Doing Anything At All

Being fearful of a decision should never halt your growth. Moving forward is the only way we can ever genuinely grow as human beings. While you may have a steady job, it doesn’t hurt to pursue something that offers you more money and more room to grow. Clearly, it’s safer to stay at a job that pays the bills and is fulfilling. But what about being able to work for larger companies, be more creative, get more money, and live in a brand new city? If any of that sounds interesting, then it’s time to get out of your comfort zone. Take that bold leap of faith and go for your dreams. You never know what might come your way. Again, this isn’t to necessarily say that your dreams will come true overnight. On the contrary, life has a funny way of giving us life lessons at the perfect time.

Just Practice Being More Decisive

It’s hard. I am notorious for being indecisive. But that doesn’t mean that I avoid decisions., I practice being decisive when I have the opportunity. Building this decision muscle is hard, but it definitely pays off in the end.

As humans, we make mistakes. This means we make wrong decisions just as much as we make the right ones. But I have found that placing my trust in the universe is the only way to keep me sane. When a decision seems to be a mistake, I focus on the lesson. What can I learn from this seeming mistake that can then allow me to grow and prosper? Shifting your perspective in this way is mind-blowing. Give it a try and see what magic occurs as a result. ...Read More

Fela Kuti was a pioneer of the Afrobeat genre, a unique style of music that was initially unrecognized in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. His music fiercely criticized oppressive regimes, which led to severe persecution by authorities.

Notable rebellious songs include “Zombie,” which condemned Nigerian soldiers for blindly following despotic rulers’ orders, and “V.I.P. (Vagabonds in Power),” which encouraged the oppressed to rise against the government. Despite being arrested 200 times and enduring numerous beatings, Kuti continued to produce political lyrics and released 50 albums before his death.
