Nigerian Police Arrest Officer Who Allegedly Stabbed Kaduna Resident Stopping Him From Assaulting Girlfriend To Death

Photos of Charniel Amanzie Moses, the police officer who is accused of fatally stabbing a resident of Kaduna, Adekunle Oduwole, have surfaced.....Read Full Article>>

On Facebook, Moses describes himself as a singer, poet/song writer, importation coach and procurement agent.

SaharaReporters reports that Inspector Moses allegedly killed Oduwole. A family source who spoke with SaharaReporters had accused the police officer of stabbing Oduwole to death on September 22, 2024 between 10:50 pm and 11:00 pm at J11 Lounge, Kaduna.

According to the family source, on the said date, Inspector Moses entered J11 Lounge, Kaduna, to search for a woman he claimed to be his girlfriend, whom he later found and assaulted.

It was learnt that in a desperate bid for safety, Inspector Moses’s alleged girlfriend sought refuge with Oduwole, who was nearby in the lounge, and begged for assistance.

As Oduwole attempted to shield her from harm, Inspector Moses reportedly made unsubstantiated accusations, claiming Oduwole was involved with his girlfriend.

Without provocation, Inspector Moses then allegedly violently stabbed Oduwole, resulting in his tragic and untimely death.

The family source said Oduwole quickly got on a commercial motorcycle and rushed to Sabon Tasha General Hospital but could not be treated as the health workers on the ground told him that they were on strike.

The family source said, “When the officer used the jack knife to stab him (Oduwole), he took himself to the General Hospital, Sabon, where they told him they were on strike and then he told the ‘bike man’ to take him to St. Gerald Hospital. It was when he got to the gate and wanted to enter that he died.”

Meanwhile, the family source told SaharaReporters that witnesses including a Suya seller said the officer’s alleged girlfriend had declined an invitation to hang out with the officer when he called her earlier in the evening, only for him to find her at the lounge.

The source said the police officer was serving in FCT, Abuja but had travelled to Kaduna for the weekend where he asked the lady out.

Meanwhile, the family in a petition addressed to the Kaduna State Commissioner for Police, through their lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, had demanded that “all necessary legal measures be taken against Inspector Moses to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law”.

The family also called on the state police command to maintain full transparency and cooperate fully with them throughout the investigation process.

However, when contacted for comments, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, told SaharaReporters that he would “investigate and get back” to our reporter.

Speaking to SaharaReporters during the weekend, a police source confirmed the arrest of the Inspector.

“Yes, he is a serving officer and already in custody. The police are done with investigation and the deceased family should bring their lawyer to charge him to court,” he told SaharaReporters on Sunday.

On October 5, elections were held at the grassroot levels in some states like Rivers, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa.

“It takes humility for him to apologize” – Evangelist Mike Bamiloye reacts to Pastor Adeboye’s apology over tithing

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked President Bola Tinubu to withhold allocations to states that have failed to conduct credible local government elections.

On October 5, elections were held at the grassroot levels in some states like Rivers, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa. Most states, however, are yet to conduct local government polls and still collect money from the federal allocations for their respective local council.

Displeased by the development, the group described the action of some state governors as wrong.

In a statement on Sunday, SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, specifically wants Tinubu to “direct Mr Olawale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, to immediately withhold federal allocations to states that have failed and/refused to conduct credible local government elections, and to ensure that any allocations from the Federation Account is paid only to democratically elected local government councils and no other body or institution.”

Oluwadare urged the President to “details of the number of local government councils that have directly received federal allocations and whether the councils are democratically elected, as provided for by the Nigerian Constitution 1999 [as amended] and ordered by the Supreme Court in its judgment of 11 July 2024.”

“Your government has the obligation to enforce the Nigerian Constitution and to prevent public wrong, including by state governors,” he said.

“A democratically elected local government council does not and should not exist at the pleasure, whims and caprice of governors or their ‘political godfathers’.

“Your government also has the constitutional obligation to ensure accountability for the spending of federal allocations and immediate compliance with the judgment by the Supreme Court and the rule of law.

“Local government councils are entitled to a direct payment from the Federation Account to promote good governance, people’s welfare and development of local government areas across the country.

“Where the rule of law reigns, political expediency ought to be sacrificed on the altar of the rule of law so as to guarantee the continued existence of institutions created to promote social values of liberty, orderly conduct and development.

“We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken within 7 days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP shall consider appropriate legal actions to compel your government to comply with our request in the public interest.

“It will be entirely consistent with the rule of law to immediately withhold federal allocations to states that have failed and/refused to conduct local government elections and to ensure that any allocations from the Federation Account are paid only to democratically elected councils and no other body or institution.”
